Although Amazon, Shein, and other fast fashion brands seem like the most affordable and easiest option, here are some sustainable ideas that don’t break the bank.

Etsy

Etsy is a great way to support local businesses from the comfort of your own home. Etsy has committed to reaching net zero emissions by 2030. There are endless options available with a wide range of price points, so you can definitely find something that fits your budget.

Here are some brands to check out:

  • 3SistersCandleCo sells a wide variety of candles for $6.99
  • Ringostone sells simple, modern, and vintage-style jewelry in gold and silver ranging from $12 to $16
  • JerseyHandCraft sells personalized wallets for $13
Farmers Markets

Unsure what to get someone? Pop by your local farmers market and stroll around. Chances are, something will catch your eye.

Thrifting

Although this one may be time-consuming, it is a great way to shop for college gear or for someone with a more unique style. VT Thrift and the vintage popup store right outside the bookstore are options for thrifting right here in Blacksburg.

shopping from eco-friendly brands and websites

Pura Vida

Pura Vida plans to offset 100% of their carbon emissions from shipping by 2025 and implement better recycling and waste reduction programs. They sell bracelets and anklets that range from $7 to $10.

Lush

Using recycled packaging and limiting their palm oil usage, Lush is a wonderful brand to support. Although not all products are budget-friendly, you can buy shower gel for $11.50 or soap/bath bombs for under $10.

greentoys.com

Need to shop for kids? Green toys are toys that are 100% recycled and are around $15.

Earthhero.com

Earth Hero is basically like Amazon but sustainable. It is a perfect place to buy eco-friendly kitchenware, bath supplies, and other home utilities. Most options stay under $20 as well.

NOTHING WRONG WITH A HOMEMADE GIFT

If you know how to bake, sew, or make jewelry, why not utilize your talents? Or, if you have a significant other and you’re unsure what to get them, writing them a series and heartfelt letters or “acts of service” coupons can go a long way, especially if their love language is words of affirmation or acts of service.
