“Breath, breath, breath… Maybe, they’ll just skip me…DON’T make direct eye contact”……”Hi, my name is…..
Now a senior in college, I still go through this same pep-talk every time I have to introduce myself. Though, I am sure this is all too familiar to my fellow introverts. Being an introvert has its ups and downs, but most importantly we would just like to be understood by our fellow counterparts the extroverts.
In the spirit of understanding, below are just a few things you should know about us introverts:
1.) No, we’re not mean, we just have a serious case of RBF.
2.) The mere thought of being asked to introduce ourselves or even telling someone about ourselves is nerve wrecking.
3.) Confession, we’re not texting or doing anything important in our phones. Just trying to look busy to avoid a conversation.
4.) Yes, we’re tired ALL of the time, being social takes a lot of our energy.
5.) What did we do all weekend?..Uhh sleep and oh eat.
6.) Oh, you want to reschedule?…Yes that’s fine.
7.) We take great pride in not having any plans after work or school…..OH THE RELIEF!!!
8.) Yes, we know we’re introverts and nothing will ever change that.
So the next time you come across one of us introverts in class or even on your stroll through campus make sure you consider everything above. No, we’re not mean we just really enjoy our own space. Get to know us, we’re more than what you see on the exterior.
