We all have those moments when we look into our closets and think, “Ohmygosh, I have nothing to wear!” What’s a girl to do when a style rut strikes? Fear not collegiettes, we can now look to Alexis Simmons for a little help, a sophomore from Atlanta, Georgia, and the new style guru for Wake Forest on collegefashionista.com.
College fashionista is a fashion website geared towards college students, but is open to anyone who needs a little fashion help. As a style guru reppin’ Wake, Simmons’s job entails scoping out hot trends on campus and explaining how to imitate such styles. Although it’s an unpaid internship, Simmons is proud to have the position, and is gaining both credit hours and valuable experience. The Wake Forest branch of collegefashionista.com has only been around for two years, but we’re all thrilled (and consequently more fashionable!) now that it’s at our fingertips.

Simmons first learned of the opportunity to work with collegefashionista.com when a friend at Georgia Southern introduced her to the idea. She applied for the position soon after and was accepted. The two-step application process included submitting a fashion resume, as well as styling and submitting a written piece on an individual of her choice.
After graduation, Simmons hopes to pursue a career in fashion, and dreams of one day being editor-in-chief of a fashion magazine geared towards teenage audiences. She’s definitely on the right path to achieving her dreams – besides being the current style guru for collegefashionista.com, Simmons has a number of other exciting things on her plate. On October 19th through the 21st, she will be hitting the Big Apple to attend half a dozen fashion classes at the Teen Vogue Fashion University in NYC, where courses are taught by fashion A-listers such as Michael Kors, Betsey Johnson, and celebs like Nicole Richie. From this event, Simmons hopes to gain a better understanding of the ins-and-outs of the fashion world, how to network, and other crucial elements of the industry.

Simmons credits her late grandmother, Thelma Hall Cobb, as the inspiration behind her keen fashion sense. From an early age, Cobb taught her about accessorizing, fabrics, and the artistic aspect of fashionable dressing.
“Her passing has not only given me the motivation to pursue my dream, but has also helped me to realize that my dream is in fashion,” said Simmons.
Since a little fashion advice could never hurt, Simmons shared with us some of her favorite fashion trends for fall: cut-out dresses, fringe, neon, and sweaters! Shopping spree, anyone?
