Freshman Problems: 5 Things to Do During Fall in the Forest

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wake Forest chapter.

Recently named the number one most beautiful school in the fall by bestcollegevalues.org, Wake Forest’s campus this time of year is definitely something special. Enjoying fall on campus is something we’re all lucky to do, so here are some ways you can embrace your first Wake Forest autumn, just like I did:

1.    Take a walk through Reynolda Gardens.

Yes, the Gardens are stunning any time of year, but on an autumn day, the Gardens are basically straight out of a professional painting. There are small arches and nooks, with benches where you can sit to admire the flowers, red and orange foliage, and beautiful landscape. Taking a walk through the Reynolda Gardens is a great way to relax, enjoy the outdoors, and get some exercise.

2.    Celebrate Halloween with your floor

I come from a family where Halloween is a BIG deal: a house full of decorations, candy, and fall-scented candles from the moment it hits midnight on October 1. These traditions are so much fun at home, and I’ve found them to be even more fun in my dorm at Wake. My roommate and I have big pumpkin buckets where we store snacks, and a fun Halloween themed candy dish on our desk. Our entire floor comes in at least once a day to grab a treat, and it always leads to hanging out with friends (and of course lots of candy!). Simple and easy Halloween staples like this make October festive, and they’re a great way to bring fall fun indoors.

3.    Do homework outside

Finding yourself too busy to enjoy the outdoors with all those papers and projects? Doing homework outside is a good way to switch up your routine while staying productive and enjoying the perfect fall weather we get here in Winston. So grab a group of friends, your riding boots and sweaters, and grind out that homework under the beautiful autumn sun.

4.    Grab a Starbucks fall drink & dessert

As stereotypical as it may sound, we all know we need a Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte from time to time. This year, Starbucks has added the Toasted Graham Latte to the menu, and for fall lovers, this is a must-try. Not a beverage fan? Grab a pumpkin shaped cookie or pumpkin scone. You and I both know you won’t regret it!
