For many of you, this list will bring back a sense of nostalgia for freshman dorms, first frat parties, and the excitement that only comes from knowing you’re starting a new four-year chapter in your life. For freshman, this is a to-do list to make the most of your first year at Wake. So get ready to take notes in your first class: college life.
Roll the quad.
A long-standing tradition after football game wins, make sure to make a point of rushing down to the quad to throw rolls of toilet paper over the trees and sidewalks to celebrate Wake’s victory. It may not sound very exciting, but the hype of the moment is very real. Don’t miss it!
Have a chair race down the hallway.
It’s 2 AM, you’ve been studying for hours, and the hallway is dead. Need a nice break? Grab some friends and race each other down the long hallway in your rolling office chairs. It’s dumb, fun, and a throwback to your kid instincts. The point here is to let loose sometimes and embrace your youth—you don’t have to act like an adult all the time.
Order Domino’s after midnight.
College is known for strange eating habits—breakfast for dinner, meals made entirely of desserts, or maybe surviving off coffee alone; however, Domino’s is the biggest supporter of these midnight snack cravings and will dutifully deliver your large million-topping pizza no matter the crazy hour. Take advantage of this service and embrace late-night junk food binges.
Go to a lounge party.
Wake is lucky enough to have fraternities located on campus, and carefully controlled lounge parties are the perfect place to unwind on the weekend with a hype atmosphere. Even if you don’t drink, or you’re not planning on going out every weekend, try it out. It’s definitely a staple of college life, and it would be a shame not to at least see what it’s like.
Figure out Tribble.
Okay, okay, this one isn’t so fun. But trust me, once you’ve conquered how to navigate this maze of a building, you’ll feel capable of anything.Â
Take a class you’d never think you’d like.
Wake is a fantastic place for discovery. We offer so many different courses and different fields that even if you’re a straight-and-narrow Bio major, you should make the leap and try an art class just for fun. College is experimental and forgiving, so don’t waste an opportunity to find new interests. Go explore that film class, Hinduism course, or tennis. Who knows? Maybe it’ll change your entire career path.
