Collegiettes, even though I’ve branded myself as a notorious beauty product junkie (think Makeup Forever, Lancôme, Bobbi Brown, etc.), I don’t always have the funds to fuel my addiction. One my favorite things to spend money on is expensive moisturizer. There’s no better feeling than slathering your skin in buttery goo. However, with my favorite high-end moisturizer retailing at $50 a pop, I can’t always afford a new bottle. Instead, I’ve gotten crafty…by scouring the shelves of Whole Foods in an attempt to find both a cheaper and more natural way to keep my skin glowing. My search paid off…and I’m here to share the findings with you.

Most of us have heard of Vitamin E before. In fact, the catch phrase Now improved… with Vitamin E! is slathered on the labels of most of our favorite moisturizers (including the $50 Kiehl’s one I love…sigh). But what does Vitamin E actually do? And why am I so obsessed with it? Believe it or not, Vitamin E boasts a pretty impressive resume. It strengthens and shines nails and hair, all while providing a healthy, moisturized glow.

Vitamin E comes in many different forms. The two most popular are capsules (taken orally) or the topical oil, which is my ultimate fave. Personally, I swear by Jason’s 500 I.U Pure Vitamin E Beauty Oil. With this insane North Carolina weather, (70 degrees one day…30 degrees the next) us collegiettes need to protect our dry, flaky skin. Lather your body up with some Vitamin E oil and voila!…bye bye dry skin. And there’s more! Vitamin E is also a healing agent. It works wonders on burns-especially the painful red spots that occur after shaving (hate those.)

Don’t think Vitamin E’s benefits are only for your body; it can also be applied to the face. I’m usually hesitant about putting oil on my face (um…clogged pores?), but with Vitamin E, there’s no reason to be scared. As I mentioned, when the seasons change, skin dries out. It’s important to keep your thirsty skin satisfied. I tend to get extremely dry skin underneath my eyes and cheeks. Now, I just squeeze a dime-sized amount of Vitamin E oil into my palm, dip my finger in the oil, and then gently blot it on my dry skin before I go to sleep. When I wake up the next morning, my skin is totally smooth. This is a lifesaver, because we all know it’s really hard to put makeup on dry, flaky skin!

If you want to pick up Vitamin E oil and give it a try (believe me, you do!), you can find it easily at Whole Foods (the one nearest us is on Miller Street, and only 3.5 miles away). Give it a try and go with the glow!
