Her Campus (HC): What activities are you involved with on or off campus?
Graham Nichols (GN): I participated in Wake āN ShakeĀ and Iām going to participate in Deacs Vs. Cancer!
HC: Oh, cool! Ā Can you tell me more about Deacs Vs. Cancer?Ā What exactly is the event?
GN: Deacs Vs. Cancer is an annual fundraising event to raise enough money to pay for the medical costs for cancer patients. Ā A lot of guys at Wake create their own fundraising pages online and reach out to all of their friends and family in order to maximize the donations for the event. Ā In mid-April, we all get our heads completely shaved in attempt to create more awareness about cancer. Ā I am participating because I personally have some friends and family friends who have been diagnosed with cancer. Ā Also, itās really just an event that anyone can become involved in and help out other people. Ā I am looking forward to participating in this event year after year.
HC: That sounds awesome.Ā Are you nervous about shaving your head?
GN: Yeah, Iāve never been bald before except when I was born [laughs].Ā Iām probably going to look pretty ugly, and my headās going to be pretty weird, but itās for a good cause!
HC: [Laughs] Iām sure youāll look just fine!Ā So do you know yet what you want to major in?
GN: I donāt know ā I would say math or business, and Iām going to minor in Chinese.
HC:Ā Have you ever been to China?
GN: Yeah! Ā Iāve gone for the past two summers. Ā You can have fun there!
HC: When you are chilling in the States, what do you do in your spare time?
GN: I play golf, paddleboard, and I like short walks on the beach.
HC: Short walks but not long walks, huh?
GN: With long walks on the beach, you get sunburned.
HC: Good point!
GN: I also really like music related stuff. Ā I love going to concerts, and I dabble in playing the piano.
HC: Is there a particular genre you listen to?
GN: I have a country playlist, a rock playlist, and a rap playlist. Ā I listen to all kinds of music except for Beethoven [laughs] ā just everything but opera and Miley Cyrus.
HC: You donāt like Miley? Ā Iām offended [laughs]!
GN: [Laughs] Will that offend the ladies?
HC: It could!
GN: Iām a big fan of the new Taylor Swift ā not the country Taylor Swift. Ā She has some good stuff.
HC: Do you have a favorite song from her new album?
GN: All I know is āStyleā and āBlank Spaceā from that album, so Iād probably say āBlank Space.ā
HC: Taylor loves her love songs! Ā Whatās the most romantic thing youāve ever done?
GN: My girlfriend in high school and I watched āAnimal Houseā together. Ā Iām not really a romantic kind of person!
HC: When you were younger, what did you want to grow up to be?
GN: I just wanted to drive cars.
HC: Interesting choice [laughs]!Ā What is a fun fact about yourself?
GN: I like saying pick-up lines. Ā Sometimes theyāre inappropriate. Ā Some girls think theyāre really funny, but then you get some who are just like, āWhy did you just say that?ā
HC: [Laughs] With summer right around the corner, what are you looking forward to doing?
GN: Iāll be working at a golf course at home.
HC: Are you a caddy?
GN: Sometimes, but mainly I teach junior golf camp and maybe do maintenance crew.
HC: Fun! Ā So reflecting on your first year at college, whatās your favorite memory so far?
GN: There are just so many choices. Ā The last darty was really fun during Easter weekend. Ā Everyone from the whole school came out. Ā It was pretty fun!
