Lauren Suffoletto (’13)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wake Forest chapter.

Meet Lauren Suffoletto, the mover and shaker behind the Sara Bareilles concert! Wake Forest’s very own Student Union Attractions Chair, fitness instructor and personal stylist spares a few minutes of her precious time to give Her Campus the inside scoop on her hectic life and coordinating this week’s big concert.

Name:Lauren Suffoletto (’13)

Hometown:Millville, Massachusetts

Major:History with Political Science minor

HC:What have you done to prep for the big Sara Bareilles concert?
LS:The Student Union Attractions team started working to getting her here back in August, but the past few months have been the most challenging – coordinating with Wake’s administration, the venue (Wait Chapel), and Sara’s management to bring everything together. There’s a lot more work involved than most people realize. I have had to consider everything from ticket sales and PR to security and basic supplies requested for Sara’s dressing room. I’m excited to meet her and to experience the concert (albeit behind-the-scenes) after all of the effort my team and I have put into it.  I’ve enjoyed working to make it happen, and I hope everyone enjoys the concert.

HC:So of all the artists Student Union could bring to Wake, why Sara Bareilles?
LS:As Attractions Chair for S.U., it’s my job to bring in a variety of music that’s still mainstream and popular on campus. Sara just came out with a new album and has very much broken through as an artist. Wake has also never hosted a female musician on campus. I thought it would be important to bring someone of this caliber. It was a very strategic move to get her to come this semester; it was the perfect time to bring her because she’s famous enough but still very much up-and-coming. She’s also down-to-earth, and I love her new video for ‘Uncharted!’

HC: Three Truths and a Lie:
LS: 1. I don’t have a passport 2. I work at J. Crew as a stylist 3. I’ve been to Iceland, and 4. I have seen John Mayer in concert three times . . .

HC: So what’s the lie?
LS: I haven’t actually been to Iceland, but I really want to go someday!  I’ve never had a reason to get a passport, and since I chose to do the Wake Washington program in the fall instead of going abroad, I still don’t really have a need to get one. I am a stylist for J. Crew back at home.  It’s fun picking out clothes to fit the personalities of these women who look to my expertise for advice in fashion.  And as for John Mayer, I just can’t get enough.  All of the concerts I went to were amazing and happened at turning points (like coming out with a new album) in his career.

HC: You’re a fitness instructor on campus and you love music, so you must love to dance too, right?
LS: Absolutely!

HC: So you’ve gotta have some favorite dance moves . . .
LS:I can definitely break it down with some original dance moves of mine, but I particularly like to infuse a variety of genres to mix it up.  I find that hip-hop and Latin work well together . . .

HC: So it’s time ‘would you rather . . .’

HC: . . . wear heels or flats?
LS: Flats for sure.

HC: . . . wear solid or roll-on deodorant?
LS: Solid – wait, what’s roll-on deodorant?

HC: . . . watch a movie or read a book?
LS: Movie, definitely.

HC: . . . have sand or grass between your toes?
LS: Sand – but not the hot, rocky sand – like the silky sand in the Bahamas.

HC: . . . Jason Bourne, James Bond or Jack Bauer?
LS: Jason Bourne – he has the dark, mysterious and handsome element to him. That’s very intriguing to me. (Boys, take notes . . .)
