It’s common knowledge that if you go to The Pit between 11 and 1, you’ll have a good ten minutes to kill just waiting to swipe in. But, what some people tend to forget is all the navigating you will have to do after you get in the door.
The pressing question? Where to sit. On some days you really just have to take what you can get since seats are scarce. But when the options are available, where you sit depends on your mood, your time frame, the people you’re with, and so much more…
Tall Tables: Prime location for The Pit Sit. You are right in the middle, you spy everyone that walks by and you can do some serious people watching while saying hi to everyone you know. Tall tables are great when you want to linger in The Pit for a while. The only con to sitting at a tall table is that you smell like The Pit for the rest of the day. Being in the center of all the food really soaks the smell into your clothes.
Spotted: The tall tables being the most crowded section of the Pit. No surprise there!
The New Area: For the newbies. For all the upperclassmen, we remember when the side door area used to be the sundry…To us, it is just plain weird that that space is a part of the Pit now. Thus, only freshman sit here, so if you don’t want to be labeled as a newbie on campus, avoid this area.
The back, behind the cereal and drinks: Most people avoid this area unless you are solo in The Pit trying to get some studying done or you are on an intimate date and do not want to be interrupted. If you are choosing an area, I would try to steer clear of the back. It always seems a little dirty.
Spotted: the one empty table during the lunchtime rush.
The back, near the desserts and dish drop off: This area is debatable. There is plenty of good seating and a lot of athletes usually opt for this section. Pro: You have easy access to the desserts and you can watch TV if you want. Con: You are near the dish washer and that area smells bad sometimes.
The booths: Always a good choice when you are doing some last minute studying in the Pit. Snagging a booth to eat a pre-test breakfast is always ideal. Also, if you want to sit in very close proximity (maybe a crush?!), then squeeze four people into a booth and make up an excuse that you couldn’t find another four person table.
