Street fairs, Battle of the Bands, free ice cream (as sweet as Ross Boatwright’s voice singing Needtobreathe’s “Something Beautiful” on the quad), a capella benefit concerts, mythbusters, comedy tours, Lilting Banshees performances, karaoke at Shorty’s, senior dinner at the Joel, Shagging on the Mag, Seizing the Quad, entrepreneurship ventures outside the pit, Earth Day fairs…
throw all these events into one week at Wake Forest, on top of your existing weekly schedule, sprinkle in a little sunshine and whatdoyacallit? Springfest.

Hope you enjoyed Springfest, a week jam-packed full of warm-weather activities for us Wake students to attend in our copious free time. How is it that my cares disappear prematurely (just like the Mag Room?) when Ross Boatwright’s sweet voice sings Needtobreathe’s “Something Beautiful” on the Mag quad, or when Valentina Casanova dances on stage at Banshees? In the midst of pre-finals stress, (stressing about stress…) I found myself feeling as though I was on vacation. I had a moment of this week where I realized how much more important my friends are to me than my studies. I’m pledging to worry less about school work these next few weeks, in favor of spending more time with graduating seniors and juniors going abroad in the Fall! Thank you Student Union for easing me through these last few weeks with fun and food and frolicking.

And the fun doesn’t stop! Throw your stress, Marketing cases, and Orgo exams to the wind and get pumped for the Ben Harper concert next Wednesday!

Kelsey Garvey is a junior English major at Wake Forest University. Her upbringing in Connecticut, otherwise known as country club land, inspired her to write in order to escape and locate something more. Writing has also acted as her outlet to dabble in subjects far beyond her my intellectual capacity: art, culture, design, fashion, photography, and music. Other than reading Vogue and Vanity Fair cover-to-cover, Kelsey enjoys frequenting the blogosphere, speaking franglais in daily conversation, and laughing at her own pathetic jokes. Feel free to email her with any questions or comments.
