Regarding my half-year-long obsession with the Sam Edelman Zoe’s, I’m sad to report that there’s still a void in my closet that longs to be filled by some 5-inch leather and suede wedge booties. Complete with removable quilted harness and metal zipper and double-buckle detailing, I die of lust every time I envision the outfits I could construct around this one versatile pair of shoes. Sold out everywhere within weeks of New Year’s Eve, my Twitter dated Tuesday, December 28th 2010 reads, “The challenge of attaining these ankle boots is actually making me a crazy person.” True story. Well, if Calloway has taught me anything, problem-solving and proactivity are keys to success. Applying these processes to real life, I vowed to remain loyal to my original strategy (read: New Year’s Eve ensemble consisting of black blazer, white tank, jean cutoffs and sheer black tights) a true possibility despite my lack of Zoe’s.
I’m usually far from the philosophical type, but when it comes to key wardrobe pieces, I have this unwavering theory I created in high school. Meaning, for example, when I stumble across a gorgeous cream off-the-shoulder Marc Jacobs silk top (not even Marc by Marc, mind you) for a double-digit price in an XS, then that purchase was just meant to be. The same went for my Zoe stand-ins. Now, taking a look at Traffic’s website, any self-respecting girl would be horrified, disgusted and/or appalled, especially one who considers herself to be the slightest bit of a fashion enthusiast. I don’t remember what compelled me to browse this store whose target market was simply NOT a small Asian sporting a leather jacket and a grey acid-wash bodycon skirt… but it warranted a happy ending. I fell in love with these lace-up ankle booties and everything was fine and well in the world once again.
Oh. And they were $25, size 5 and tax-free. Filed under: the quintessential successful purchase.
