Fall is a time to go out with the old and in with the new. Whether that’s Starbucks drinks, clothes, or even makeup, everyones doing their own version of evolving. For me, fall means changing out my music. I’ve just finalized my (what I consider perfect) fall playlist, with songs that embody a perfect fall day. These five songs are my current favorites, and should be added to your playlist!

  1. Cemetery Gates – The Smiths

If I’m being honest, the only reason this song is on my fall playlist is because I saw a fall tik tok edit to it. Now, I see it as the perfect cozy fall song. It’s a smooth sailing tune, with no real climax or bridge. Personally, I think that’s what makes it so perfect for this time of year. It’s an easy listen for any mood or time of day, ideal for a cold fall drive with the windows down.

  1. Get Free – Lana Del Rey

Realistically, I have ten Lana songs on my fall playlist. But, I thought Get Free was the closest embodiment of the season. The song starts off slow and melodic, and stays with this vibe, but as the vocals pick up, it begins to feel so free (hence Get Free). Lana truly has a way of making you embrace your surroundings using her music.

  1. She Smokes In Bed – TV Girl

She Smokes In Bed is more of an upbeat song for this playlist. To me, it embodies a flawless combination: a cold 55 degree day with a blazing hot sun. TV Girl juxtaposes the upbeat track with fluid vocals, giving you that musical sweet spot. This song could be enjoyed on a bright sunny day or a cloudy rainy day, making it the ideal October song.

  1. Listen Up – Oasis

Listen Up consists of exciting loud vocals, with blaring drums and guitar in the background. It may be different from a typical fall song, but anything oasis to me fits the vibe. Fall is a time for exciting changes, and the lyrics of Listen Up emphasize leaving behind the old, and bringing in new opportunities to your life. As corny as this is, the song motivates me to embrace the differences coming into my life this fall.

  1. This Old Dog – Mac Demarco

Mac Demarco: my king of fall. I think I could have picked any Mac Demarco song and it would’ve worked, but This Old Dog is very near and dear to my heart. It’s easy to get burnt out in fall, picking up the responsibilities you got to leave behind over summer. This Old Dog is my perfect “wind down” song, to destress after a busy day and take a deep breath. Mac always does it right.
