After spending the last three and a half months in Florence, Italy, it is safe to say that it will always have a very special place in my heart! Maybe I am a little biased, but I certainly believe Florence is one of the most beautiful cities in Italy, and I do truly believe everyone has to visit it at least once. Having had plenty of time to explore and try many places, I have composed my list of the top five things one has to do when in Florence:

  1. Visit the Accademia Galley

This Gallery is not as big as other museums in Florence like The Uffizi, but it was one of my favorites by far. Here you can see Michelangelo’s David!

2. Hike up to Piazzale Michelangelo

Bring a bottle of wine and a panini and head up to this square where you can see a breathtaking panoramic view of Florence

3. Lunch at Gusta Pizza

I am from New York so I know good pizza and trust me when I say this is the best pizza you will ever have in your entire life (it also comes in the shape of a heart sometimes if you’re lucky!)

4. Gelato at La Carraia

The age-old debate of where is the best gelato in Florence has finally been settled and let me tell you La Carraia is the winner! (Insider tip: the almond milk gelato and the nutella & yogurt gelato are my favorites)

5. Climb Giotto’s Campanile

Right around sunset is a great time to climb to the top of the bell tower right next to the Duomo. It has incredible views, and I personally prefer the view on the top of the bell tower because you can get a perfect picture of the Duomo!

Most importantly be sure to stop and take it all in because it is truly one of the most extraordinary places!
