Sao Paulo. This past Wednesday a crane at the World Cup stadium (currently under construction) in Brazil collapsed, killing two people. Four people in total have now died during preparation and construction for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Many are worried about the country’s overall preparedness, as this latest accident will push FIFA’s December 31st deadline for completion back. The stadium in Sao Paulo, called Arena Corinthians, is set to host the opening ceremony and first game of the World Cup on June 12th.

Hit the road, Jack. Alec Baldwin’s new show on MSNBC has officially been cancelled, just weeks after he was already suspended for a public gay slur to a photographer. The network said on November 15th that it would postpone Up Late for two weeks but unfortunately they could not come to an agreement with the hot-tempered actor.

Sandy Hook. Early this week the official investigation report for the Sandy Hook shooting was released, nearly a year after the December 14th massacre. The 48-page report gives a detailed portrait of the killer, Adam Lanza, but does not really give an answer to the big “Why?” question. The report shows what a troubled young man he was but does not offer a motive as to why he orchestrated the shooting. Lanza suffered from Asperger’s syndrome and was preoccupied with violent video games and research of previous U.S. massacres. However, his troubling interests still do not resolve this matter for many people. The release of this report has reminded Newtown, Connecticut of the awful tragedy once again.

Crash. This morning a Metro-North Railroad train derailed en route to the Bronx in New York State. Four people were reported killed and 63 injured, many of them in critical condition. This is believed to be the deadliest train crash in New York in the past 20 years. The train operator said that the brakes failed but an investigation is currently underway to get to the bottom of the tragedy.

RIP. Actor Paul Walker, age 40, passed away on Saturday in Southern California after a car crash. The star of the Fast & the Furious films was in the passenger seat of a Porsche driven by a racing team partner when they hit a pole and the car went up into flames. The driver of the car, identified as Roger Rodas, also died. They had both attended a holiday toy drive for Walker’s charity, Reach Out Worldwide.
