Have you been so busy with #WorkForest that you have not had any time to keep up with the news? Here are some tidbits from this past week to keep you updated and in the know.
R.I.P. This Thursday, world hero Nelson Mandela passed away at the age of 95. He had been hospitalized for a lung infection last spring and had been having health troubles ever since. But no worries, because apparently we have Kanye West to save the day! In a radio interview this week, West claimed that he is “the next Nelson Mandela” and has already done so much for civil rights in his career as a rapper. Free at last. Florida’s state attorney announced this week that he would not be pressing charges against Florida State University quarterback, Jameis Winston. The Heisman front runner had been under investigation since November for a rape case that happened about a year ago, in 2012. The entire ordeal comes with much suspicion after rumors of police cover-ups and dismissal of the victim’s claims because she was “in football country.” No one will ever know what happened last year but it is important to note that the decision was rushed through before the pending announcement of the Heisman Trophy winner. Either way, it was a very courageous move for the international icon.

This move shows that the Pope clearly knows that this is an issue that needs to be addressed. Many, however, are concerned that the commission will ultimately be ineffective.

The U.S. is in Group G with Germany, Ghana, and Portugal, all powerhouse soccer nations. Soccer fans are calling this a “group of death,” considering Germany is one of the favorites to win this year. Ghana has also knocked the U.S. out of the running the past two World Cups and Portugal is led by its star player, Cristiano Ronaldo. All bad things for the U.S. in an already tumultuous World Cup preparation…
