Silver bells, silver bells, it’s Christmas time in the city~~Yes, it’s that time of year again (already?!): Christmas! Although we still have about a month left, Christmas has definitely arrived and made its presence felt in Tokyo. And one of the best things about being in Tokyo during Christmas season is that you get to see all the pretty illuminations in every corner of the city. So the Her Campus team picked out the prettiest illuminations in Tokyo that our fun-loving collegiettes simply must not miss!
Roppongi Midtown
One of the most widely-known Christmas illuminations in Tokyo is the one in Roppongi Midtown! Also known as the Starlight Garden, this illumination isn’t just popular amongst couples but friends and families as well! It’s a truly magnificent illumination so it’s no wonder that during Christmas season, so many people line up to see the illumination that it takes about 30-40 minutes of queuing before you actually get to see this beautiful illumination. So do go early!
Taking a stroll around the Roppongi area after catching a glimpse of the dazzling Starlight Garden is also a good idea since there are so many other beautiful Christmas decorations near Roppongi Midtown. And of course, the Tokyo Tower in the background of Roppongi is a huge bonus! So be sure to check out the area around Roppongi Midtown as well!
Ebisu Garden Place
The ultra-romantic Ebisu Garden Place is also a great place to check out illuminations. Going the more traditional route, the centerpiece of their illuminations is still a Christmas tree. Their beautifully decorated 10m Christmas tree that appears annually without fail at the entrance of Ebisu Garden Place is a sight to behold and will help you create unforgettable memories with lovers, friends, and families.
Behind the Christmas tree, there is path with shiny illuminated trees which leads to the Baccarat Eternal Lights. Baccarat Eternal Lights is a 5 meters tall, 3 meters wide chandelier from the French brand Baccarat. The chandelier has a total of 8,472 pieces of crystals, and known to be the biggest Baccarat chandelier in the world.
Even if you aren’t interested in the Christmas illuminations, Ebisu Garden Place is still an extremely romantic spot, with lots of good food near its area so do check it out!
Tokyo Dome City
Unlike the illuminations in Roppongi and Ebisu, Tokyo Dome City’s Christmas illuminations have a wholly different charm. Whereas Roppongi and Ebisu stick to the more traditional Christmas colors, going for an elegant and sophisticated Christmas set-up, Tokyo Dome City offers a more whimsical and playful take on Christmas. The attractions are creative, colorful and so very unique! Furthermore,Tokyo Dome City Winter Illumination extends into its theme park with attractions such as Ferris wheel and tea cup rides and they even have a night pass which allows you to enjoy the attractions from 5 pm at a cheaper price than the one day pass. Great way to pass the time when you’re out on a date next time!
Winter break is coming soon so do check out the beautiful illuminations around town!
