HC: What is your favorite movie?
Chujo: The Hangover
Â
HC: What do you like to do in your free time?
Chujo: I enjoy cycling, especially by the sea, and going to different places to eat. Ameyoko in Ueno is my favorite place for food. I also play American football.
Â
HC: Do you have a favorite female celebrity?
Chujo: I think Tsubasa Honda is very cute.
Â
HC: Do you have any favorite athlete?
Chujo: My favorite athlete is probably the soccer player Naga Tomo…because we’re around the same size (laughs). Although he’s much smaller compared to most other players; what he lacks in height he makes up for in physical strength. He’s a great example of how you can overcome your limits to be successful.
Â
HC: Waseda has a pretty diverse student body, so you’ve probably interacted with several international students. What do you think is the most distinct difference between Japanese girls and girls from other countries?
Chujo: Girls from other parts of the world are definitely more direct and open compared to Japanese girls. It probably has to do with difference in culture—Japanese tend to communicate more indirectly.
Â
HC: What do you think is something important to know about dating Japanese guys or having Japanese boyfriends?
Chujo: We need to have time for ourselves—we really treasure our own personal time. Also, Japanese guys (I’m not sure if this is the case for all guys) really care about the girl’s past dating history because we feel like we want to be the girl’s first love. For girls, it’s the opposite—they want to be the guy’s last girlfriend.
Â
HC: When you’re dating a girl, what do you look for?
Chujo: I want to be with a girl whose company I enjoy; someone with a great personality, positive, and is willing to try new things. I find it really cute when she says she wants to go somewhere with me and I jokingly say “I don’t want to” and she gives me this sad face. Also, you know you’ve found a great girl when you don’t want to say goodnight yet when the date is coming to an end.
Â
HC: Any turn-offs?
Chujo: When a girl speaks ill of someone, especially if that person is someone I know. I also can’t stand it when she can’t or is unwilling to apologize at all.
Â
HC: How would you plan out your ideal date?
Chujo: We would wake up together around 10am and decide it’s still too early to get up. We’d stay in bed longer and lounge until the afternoon. If there was a festival going on near my house, we’d go and buy a lot of food from the stalls and then sit by the riverbed to eat. Then we would play catchball for a while. While we’re heading home, I’d say, “The sky is clear and the air is nice today,” and suggest we go for a drive to see the night view. Afterwards we would have a late midnight dinner at a ramen shop and then go back home together.Â
