At this point in the semester, classes are over, and you can just taste the end of stress and start of relaxation. After finishing all of your exams, you’ll finally have the time to go see a movie without feeling guilty for ignoring your workload afterwards. Here are some movies showing in May, and you’ll actually have time to see them! See if you want to see a couple, and hopefully that will give you some extra motivation to finish the semester on a high note!

April 26:

Avengers: Endgame

You’d have to be living under a rock to not know about the latest installment in the Marvel franchise. Set to break box office records, it will most likely be playing in most places all month long.

May 3:

Long Shot

This new comedy starring Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron is about a woman running for president and reconnecting with a guy she used to babysit. Not the most exciting premise for some of us, but if you’re a Seth Rogen fan, it’s likely to meet, if not surpass, expectations.

May 10:

The Hustle

A comedy about female scam artists with Anne Hathaway starring as well-informed upper class scammer taking Rebel Wilson under her wing to teach her how to hustle. It is a remake of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels with female leads. It looks funny, especially if you’re just looking to relax after the semester.

Pokemon Detective Pikachu

With Ryan Reynolds as the voice of Pikachu, this Pokemon movie is sure to be a hit, especially with our nostalgic generation. Justice Smith (the guy from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) is Pikachu’s partner as they try to find his missing father. The trailer looks like it will be a lot of fun, especially for Pokemon fans.

May 17:

John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum

The next installment in this franchise, Keanu Reeves stars as the titular character again, with Halle Berry as his assassin friend. Most of the cast is returning, as is the director, so fans of the first two films will definitely like this action-packed thriller.

The Sun Is Also A Star

This romantic drama (comedy?) film stars Yara Shahidi (Grown-ish) and Charlie Melton (Riverdale) as the romantic leads. From the trailer, it seems that he saves her life, and then they fall in love, but her family is being deported. It’s based on a book of the same name, and it looks like it has an important message with compelling performances by the two leads.

May 24:

Aladdin

Disney’s latest live-action remake is set to come out at the end of this month. Mena Massoud plays Aladdin, with Naomi Scott (Lemonade Mouth) as Jasmine, and Will Smith in the role of the genie. Like Beauty and the Beast, this remake is a musical, so hopefully it lives up to the expectations of Disney fans.

May 31:

Rocketman

This biopic about Elton John’s life stars Taron Egerton (Kingsman: Secret Service) as Elton, with his voice singing the songs in the musical as well. Richard Madden also stars as John Reid, Elton’s manager and partner for a time. The film deals with Elton’s life and his struggles with depression, substance abuse, and sexuality.
