10 Hobbies You Can Learn at Home

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Washington chapter.

1. Painting

I don’t know about you, but everyone’s Insta stories of their self-painted artwork has got me MESMERIZED. With school in full swing, painting would be a fun way to wind the week down on a lazy Sunday! Just order a few supplies online, grab your favorite snacks, and look up a tutorial (if you’re a beginner like me) for the perfect day.

2. Calligraphy

After mastering calligraphy, you can surprise your friends and loved ones from afar with a beautiful, hand-written letter! Now is the perfect time to begin perfecting your penmanship as you’ll have plenty of time to practice invitations for future parties and celebrations. You can even experiment with different types of calligraphy pens and utilize stencil guides as you learn!

3. Baking

While it may be a bit difficult to gather specific supplies depending on your local area (I’ve been having trouble finding flour), hopefully you’ll be able to find a recipe that will become your next specialty! I am looking forward to making my grandma’s lemon squares in the next few weeks and searching for new recipes on cooking blogs and cites.

4. Makeup skills

Every time I enter Sephora, I am always reminded of how much I want to know all the secrets of beauty experts. With the aid of makeup tutorials and advice of friends, now is the perfect opportunity to soak in all of their makeup tips. If you’re feeling inspired, you can even treat yourself and buy new makeup to recreate a look you’re inspired by!

5. Learn an instrument

From piano to guitar and more, now is your chance to express yourself musically. Online tutorials and teachers can be there for you step-by-step as you navigate learning a new instrument. With a little bit of practice every day, you’ll find it easier to memorize all of your favorite songs to share with people you love.

6. Learn a new language

Dying to travel in the upcoming months? Then consider learning the language of the country you want to travel to! Having a basic knowledge of conversational words and phrases will definitely make it easier for you to navigate traveling through a new country and hopefully you’ll be able to converse with locals!

7. Bullet journaling

As a planner, this is one is definitely on my radar. While I’ve never tried bullet journaling, friends of mine that do have always encouraged me to give it a try! Now is the perfect time to experiment with different formats of bullet journaling so that next school year you’ll be a pro!
