13 Movies to Watch This Valentine’s Day

Starring the iconic rom-com duo Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, this movie is the perfect sappy and romantic movie to get you in the mood for V-Day. 

Is this movie a masterpiece… no, no it’s not. But that’s not why you watch a movie like Valentine’s Day! You watch it BECAUSE it’s kind of terrible. It’s a classic movie to mock with your friends or by yourself and say things like “wow remember when that actor was everywhere!” or “oh my god is that young Taylor Swift!?” 

“Someone Great” is a now-classic comedy-drama (in my opinion) that’s more about loving yourself than it is loving someone else. This movie has made me cry dozens of times so if you’re in the mood for that… 

Who doesn’t love a time-traveling love story that is somehow both quaint and fantastical? This movie is effortlessly charming and emotional, and a must-watch in my humble opinion. 

So… the main character is admittedly a terrible person. This movie has been called out many-a-time for displaying pretty toxic behaviors. However… you’d be surprised just how enjoyable and artful it is, which is why it made it on my list. Just don’t take any pointers from the main character. 

When this movie premiered in May of 2020, I was shocked at how little I heard anyone talking about it. Social media appeared to be completely ignoring this cheesy yet gentle love triangle. Maybe it’s just me, but I think this movie is excellent and perfect for Valentine’s Day viewing.

Cause you gotta. 

This movie based on the beloved book by Jane Austen is the slow burn romance of the ages. Gasp! Their hands touched! This is the ultimate escapist romance for me and thus one of the best movies to watch on V-Day. 

Literally, the name of this movie is so bad I’m convinced it’s the reason I’ve never heard anyone talk about it.* A masterpiece? No. But is it fun? Is it juicy? Do you become invested in the romance and experience the longing to travel? Yes! 

*When I googled this movie, it came up as just “Ibiza,” but on Netflix, it’s listed as “Ibiza: Love Drunk.” I have no idea what’s true anymore but both titles are terrible so my comment still stands.

This movie is so weird. I have no idea what it really is. Comedy? Action? A strange romance between two (moderately) deranged individuals?? All of the above? Nevertheless, if you want a romantic-ish movie that is decidedly not boring to watch this Valentine’s Day, look no further than “Mr. Right.”

If you’ve never seen this movie PLEASE WATCH IT! This movie has a 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, is a enemies to friends to lovers masterclass, and proves that if the Hollywood rom-com formula can be done right a movie can totally engulf you in good-old-fashioned fun.

Is there a better way to spend Valentine’s Day than spending the evening looking at Timothee Chalamet, Florence Pugh, and Saoirse Ronan? I think not. This drop-dead gorgeous movie is heartwarming and lovely in every way.  

I cannot attest to how good this movie seeing as I am writing this before it comes out on Netflix on February 12th, 2021– but come on! We all know it’s gonna be cheesy, saturated, and full of that good fuzzy feeling. Here’s hoping it’s a good one!
