5 Date Ideas for a Long-Distance Relationship During Quarantine

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Washington chapter.

1. Tour Each Other’s Hometown (Virtually)

There’s no better way to get to know your partner than through touring hometowns! Due to COVID-19 and the CDC reccomending not to travel unless absolutley necessary, hop on a FaceTime call and show your SO where you grew up! If you have some extra time, you can even screen record and catch mini video of you stopping by all of your favorite spots in town. Once stay-at-home policies are lifted, you can even offer to visit each other’s hometown in-person this summer! By giving your babe a sneak-peak preview of where you grew up, it can invite funny conversations as you travel back in time together!

2. Cooking Competition

Now is the time to discover who’s truly the best cook! Every weekend you can challenge each other to either learn new recipes or master favorite ones. You can teach each other your favorite recipes, search a quick tutorial online, or challenge each other to bake something from scratch using ingredients you have in your kitchen! While can’t take a bite of each other’s food at the end, you can definitely swap Insta worthy pics! Alternating between who gets to choose which food item to cook would also be a fun way to learn what cuisines you both like!

3. Exercise Together

This one might be a bit tricky depending on how fast you run. Instead of just listening to your favorite music when you work out, try FaceTiming your significant other instead! You can jog together, practice yoga together, or even try at-home workout videos together. This would be especially great if you and your partner typically work out together or if you need some extra motivation from someone that loves you to keep you motivated. At the end of your workout session, you can both cool down with some gentle yoga too!

4. Netflix Party

If your sweetheart doesn’t have Netflix, no worries! You can always share your password or pick a movie that you can livestream together on Zoom with the share screen feature. Funny movies are always a top choice, but you can even try starting a TV series together that you both enjoy! As a bonus, when selecting movie snacks, try and agree on the same snack too so it makes you both feel like you’re truly sitting next to each other.

5. Art Contest

If you don’t have any art supplies, don’t worry! You can even do a drawing competition with just a pencil and paper. However, if you both want to try painting or another type of craft, you can always order the supplies online and they’ll be delivered to your door! Make sure to look up a step-by-step painting video that will help you guide you both through creating your masterpieces!
