Sigh. Oh, I’m sorry. I was just admiring Kyle MacLachlan. Or as I like to call him “the Campus Cutie to rule all Campus Cuties”.
Kyle MacLachlan is from Yakima (I know there are lots of you Yakimans (Yakimites? Yakimanians?) going to UW!) and graduated from the University of Washington in 1982. He studied drama here and oh boy did it pay off!
Kyle got his start in David Lynch’s 1984 film, Dune. He went on to partner with Lynch for many memorable projects including Blue Velvet and my personal favorite, the television series Twin Peaks. Agent Cooper!
However, if you aren’t a Lynch-head, you probably know Kyle from his roles in the very recent Portlandia, Desperate Housewives, and Sex and the City. You remember Trey MacDougal? Cardboard baby? Penis problems? “Alrighty”? I know you do. And even though Harry was ultimately a better match for Charlotte, you still have a special place in your heard for TMcD.
All talk about his handsomeness aside, Kyle is a fantastic actor and dominates every role he plays. In an article about him in GQ, David Lynch described him as playing “innocents who are interested in the mysteries of life. He’s the person you trust enough to go into a strange world with.” Yes I do.
Kyle, HC Washington LOVES you! And hopes “you feel validated by your new title” as Campus Cutie to Rule All Campus Cuties.
Bonus video from when he was on Letterman back in the early 90s, right before he started shooting the second season of Twin Peaks. Oh, and I guess the correct term is “Yakimites”!:
