Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! With the big day in less than a week, many are thinking of ways to spend the day with your partner to celebrate the holiday. Whether you’re thinking of a nice way to wind down at the end of the night, or a movie night marathon, here’s my top romance movies for a cozy date night.
Chungking Express (1994)
Directed by Wong Kar-wai, this film follows a sequence of two stories of two love sick police officers, and their stories of falling in love with their individual loves.
Before Sunrise (1995)
Directed by Richard Linklater, this being the first of three films in The Before trilogy. Jesse, a tourist, meets Céline who is visiting family. One fateful night in Vienna, where they fall in love. At the end of the night they must decide, do they stay together or go their separate ways?
In the Mood for love (2000)
Witten, produced and directed yet again by Wong Kar-wai. Set in 1962 Hong Kong, a young man and woman live in the same apartment. They find out their spouses are having an affair with each other, and the film follows the events that follow.
Punch-Drunk Love (2002)
Starring Adam Sandler and Emily Watson, a shy young man (Sandler) meets the love of his life (Watson). However his life is turned upside down when scammers begin to extort him.
Lost in Translation (2003)
Directed by Sofia Coppola (who also directed The Virgin Suicides) depicts the story of a washed up movie star (Bill Murray) and a neglected young woman (Scarlett Johansson) form a bond after crossing paths with their trip to Tokyo. A beautiful story of disorientation and the human connection.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
Joel and Clementine decide to have a procedure to have each other erased from each other’s memories. However when Joel realizes he is still in love with her, is it too late?
Her (2013)
Writer Theodore decides to purchase an operating system that is “designed to meet his every need.” However, what will happen when he then develops a romantic relationship with the operating system.
Call Me by Your Name (2017)
A beautiful coming of age love story of love and loss. Starring Timotheé Chalamet, the story is set in 1980s Italy. Elio (Chalamet) begins a whirlwind summer love with his father’s research assistant.
