Ever dreamed of being transported into the magical town of a Christmas Hallmark Movie? These towns might not come with the random charming guy that will sweep you off your feet, but they are decorated for the holiday season!
North Pole, Alaska
This first one I had to include simply because of the name! It’s a town best known for its year-round Christmas decorations even if it’s a hot summer day. This may be the only place you could probably get sick of the holiday season. There is even a store called “Santa Claus’ House” filled with children’s letters to Santa. Even the streets have festive names like “Mistletoe Drive.” Although not many of us may actually venture to visit this town, it’s still a fun place to read about online.
Carmel-by-the-Sea, California
This already storybook-like town becomes even more so during December. The small beach city, which is located on California’s Monterey Peninsula, has musical performances and a Christmas tree lighting in its city center over the holiday weeks. The town is filled with mom-and-pop boutiques where you can find a gift for everyone on your list!
Mystic, Connecticut
Close to my hometown, I’ve visited Mystic many times. It’s a historic little town located right by the water. It can get very cold walking around here in the winter, but when it’s snowy it is beautiful. The main street with shops is decorated with lights and wreaths. There is also a lighted boat parade down both sides of the Mystic River!
Santa Claus, IndianaÂ
Another one that I had to include for the name, Santa Claus is also known for its holiday theme. In addition to a Santa Claus Museum in this town, there is also a Santa Claus Church and a Santa Claus Post Office. Can’t forget the 22 feet tall, 4 ton Santa Claus statue that is also in the town center. Who knew this was a real place!
Nantucket, Massachusetts
A second Northeast getaway, Nantucket offers a variety of different ways to get into the holiday spirit. Dec. 3 starts their annual Christmas stroll through Santa’s Village: a Christmas market with food and beverages through their main street. They also host a storefront and tree decorating contest for local businesses that visitors can vote on! It’s a perfect classic Northeast Christmas town.
Leavenworth, Washington
One that is a bit closer to the University of Washington and that you might be able to actually visit is Leavenworth! Leavenworth is a village located in the Cascade Mountains, in central Washington State. Its notable Alpine-style buildings host different restaurants and shops that serve German food and beer. In the heart of downtown, there is live entertainment, pictures with Santa, and gingerbread houses on display. The town even has its own Nutcracker Museum with thousands of nutcrackers on display.Â
Jackson, Wyoming
Home to three ski resorts, Jackson is a popular destination for the holidays. Outside of its ski resorts, its Town Square is decorated with Christmas lights and has ice skating. The good news is if you are looking for a snowy Christmas, you are most likely guaranteed one here. I’ve been to Jackson over the summer and it was beautiful so I’m sure in the winter it’s even more breathtaking with the mountain views.Â
