How to Have a Miley Stewart Summer

After a fun and chaotic year at college, returning to your hometown might be the least exciting thing you can think of. Maybe there’s not much to do, you’ve grown tired of high school friends, or living with parental rules again seems less than ideal. If you’re feeling any of the above, don’t fret, it just means you are gonna have your Miley Stewart summer.

If you’ve seen Hannah Montana: The Movie, you know that Miley returns back for a summer in Tennessee after living a luxurious life in LA. Like many of us returning home from college, she’s back to the life she left behind.

TikToks by @dana.labiak and @lavendarcashewmilklatte show the slowed down lifestyle that many college students are going back to for the summer. Whether it’s a gradual transition or a hard shove like Miley had, there’s always a way to go back home.

Here’s some ways to embrace your hometown just like Miley:

  1.  Go to a lake or a beach and spend the day there! Regardless of if your whole high school friend group is around or you go by yourself, it’s always great to get outside.
  1. Go for hikes or even walks around your neighborhood. If you live in an urban area like Seattle during college, it can be nice to have nature right out your backdoor to explore during breaks.
  1. Try a new hobby or activity. Summer is the time to take a break from the pressure of school work and just enjoy. Ever tried pottery, painting, or crocheting? Now is the time to try anything and everything.
  1. Go for a drive, listen to your favorite album, and get coffee. Enjoy the freedom of a car (if you have one) and the ability to go anywhere anytime without a bus or train.
  1. Spend time with your family! Once you go to college, most people go from seeing family everyday to just during breaks. Enjoy this precious time with siblings, parents, and whoever is a part of your family (blood related or not). This time is a moment you never get back.

It’s all about enjoying the simple parts of life that we sometimes forget about. There is so much joy in each and every day that we simply just have to look for. Although the transition back to home life can be challenging from college, it always helps to be grateful to have a place to return home to. Before you know it, you’ll be back at college spending every moment with your friends.
