Like many others, I find joy in spending an inhumane amount of time watching (and re-watching) various shows on Netflix! I have always struggled with sticking to a show and finishing it, and I am often hesitant in staring a new series. However, during these unprecedented times, I have had more than enough time to discover new shows and I have come to fall in love with so many more! So, if you’re struggling in finding a new show to watch, here are three of my favorites!Â
Â
La Casa de Papel (Subtitles are available!)Â
This show grew tremendously in popularity during the early months of the ongoing pandemic, and I can’t believe it was almost thrown out! This series never let me relax! From the first to the last episode, it draws you in and doesn’t let go. You’ll find it hard to not watch a whole season in one day, and it is still currently holding on strong to its top spot of being the most-watched non-English title since its rise to popularity. This nail-biting and exciting series follows a group of well-trained thieves through their heists of the Bank and the Royal Mint of Spain. All while El Profesor, the mysterious mastermind behind the idea, leads the group from outside the heist. It currently has 4 seasons with roughly 10 episodes each and has been approved for a fifth and final season! The release date has been rumored to be in the summer of 2021, so that means you still have some time! Go watch all 4 seasons before the summer!Â
Â
Black MirrorÂ
Now I am sure that many of you are familiar with or have heard of this show. If you haven’t heard of Black Mirror, just know that this show will make you overthink everything. This is one of my favorites to watch because each episode is based in a different setting with different characters, which makes it a super versatile show. I remember when I first started watching it, I skipped around to different seasons and episodes usually – since most episodes are not based on each other. It has this futuristic approach and it analyses modern society while displaying the possible consequences of new technologies. At first, I laughed after finishing a few episodes because I thought it was too far-fetched and super overdramatic. However, when you really sit back and think about what was going on within the show and analyze it in your own mind, you start to realize a lot about our own modern world.Â
Â
Jenni Rivera: Mariposa De Barrio (Subtitles are available!)Â
This show just recently made its debut on Netflix, but it has been around since 2017. When this series first came out on the tv network Telemundo, I would watch the weekly episodes, but then would forget or not have time to watch the following episode. Which is why I am glad it got put on Netflix since it is helpful to be able to watch at your own pace! I also hated being left on a cliffhanger (which this show has a lot of, so be prepared,) and now I can forward to the next episode with ease. The Spanish series has an autobiographical approach and follows the life and upbringing of deceased regional Mexican singer, Jenni Rivera, on her rise to fame. She was so loved and admired by her fans and she left the physical world as a legend – but her legacy lives on! This series has only one season, but 91 forty-minute episodes within it. I know what you’re thinking, that’s a lot! How will you ever be able to finish it? Or maybe you are like me and you’re afraid you’ll get bored and drop the show altogether. Just know that is not the case with this series! Whether you are a Jenni Rivera fan, or you’ve never heard about her until now, her sad and triumphant story is captivating from start to finish and you’ll become hooked instantly! If my own father could sit down and watch 5 episodes straight of this telenovela with me, then I am convinced anyone can finish this series!Â
