I don’t know about anybody else, but I am truly done with this whole pandemic thing. I am really tired of living in ‘unprecedented times,’ and I cannot wait for things to be somewhat normal again… although, I’m pretty sure it may never be the same as before. To me, it now feels like the last time things were precedented was in elementary school. In actuality, it’s been nearly a year in lockdown, but I am grasping for reality. Every face I see outside of my home is either masked or digital. I wake up every morning to a bland day just like the one before- it’s scary that I forget I exist every once in a while.
But, even when the days, weeks, and even months go by in a blur, and we feel like we aren’t leaving a mark on the world, it’s important to find ways to remind ourselves that we are. And sometimes, that is more than enough on days when we want nothing more than to disappear. Here are some of my methods of remembering that I’m human.
Â
1. Watch movies that make you cry (or at least feel something).Â
Watching a movie that will make you cry- either from sadness or from laughter, will do you wonders. Watch to escape- Â Watching something that actually makes you feel something very strongly will make you feel alive. Okay next.Â
2. Put on real clothes, and maybe some makeup
If I don’t curl my eyelashes in the morning it’s like I was never there that day. Bonus points if you make it outside.Â
3. Pretend you’re on the Vogue YouTube channel while you do your skincare routine (or showering).Â
This gives you practice for when you get famous and also helps you take time to yourself, to actually be there with yourself to care and love yourself. We’re with ourselves all the time nowadays, but it’s important to not just a passive entity.Â
4. Listen to Taylor Swift or find new musicÂ
I find old music does the best job of really transporting me to a time where I feel much better. Lately, I’ve been into Queen. Â
5. Apply to things like jobs and internships and get rejectedÂ
It’s part of the human experience. Enjoy it!
6. Remember I am actually very fortunate to be in the position that I am in.
In pandemic life, it’s important to keep things in check and remember that for most of us, we may not be in an ideal situation, but we are still okay. That being said, emotions are important; it does not mean I cannot feel terrible sometimes, but it’s always nice to be grateful.
7. Get off Instagram.
No offense but Instagram has done nothing for my mental health and I am trying my hardest to get off it for good.Â
8. Scream into a pillow every once in a while.
As I said, it’s important to get your emotions out once in a while.Â
9. Remember that there is happiness in life now and after this pandemic. Stay hopeful.Â
