7 Super Cute Cafes to Visit in Uptown Waterloo

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Waterloo chapter.

Now that sweater (and coat) weather is upon us collegiettes, there’s no better time than to check out some amazing cafes in uptown where you can grab a hot drink to warm up your cold hands!

1. Cafe 22

Has both an extensive hot beverage and wine menu which makes it a super cute and cozy destination. They also have salads, soup and sandwiches on the menu, making it a great place to stop by no matter the time.

Perfect for… a nightcap with your super cute dinner date.

2. Coffee Culture

Yes, this place is part of a larger chain, but it’s still a really cute place to check out. The coffee’s pretty cheap, and they have breakfast, sandwiches and snacks available. I would go here if you’re trying to stretch your dollar, or if you’ve been to your local Coffee Culture and you know you like their coffee.

Perfect for… that group study session.

3. Settlement Co.

Not only does this place have tea, coffee and espresso, but they also have an extensive waffle and toast menu, both which are perfect for an afternoon snack. This is totally the place if you’re looking for an adventurous way to expand your palate. Also, this place has some super cute light fixtures for a great cafe aesthetic. Best part is too, if you like their coffee, you can buy a bag of it!

Perfect for… that first date with the cutie you’ve been dying to ask out.

4. Death Valley’s Little Brother

My personal favourite on this list, they always have the best indie music playing and it just has the cutest atmosphere imaginable. Not only do they have amazing pour-over coffees and pastries, but they also have a ton of different kinds of whiskey. Here, time seems to pass really quickly, and I just love the whole vibe. If you’re only going to check out one place on this list, make it DVLB.

Perfect for… doing homework alone.

5. Symposium

This cafe is perfect no matter what time of day or what day of the week. This is because Symposium has a different food and drink special every day, and as students, deals are always warmly welcomed to ease the load on our bank accounts. They have everything from breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee, and alcohol, making it an awesome place to go no matter what time it is.

Perfect for… lunch with a close friend.

6. Cafe 1842

This place is a little hidden gem in the Huether Hotel. They have an extensive breakfast and sandwich menu. The inside has an old brick archway and marble floors. They’re definitely best known for their eggs benedict, so I would recommend that off their menu.

Perfect for… bringing your book on a lazy Sunday and enjoying a few hours of much needed you-time.

7. Princess Cafe

This cafe has received an award as being one of the best cafes in the Greater Waterloo Area. The best part is that everything is made fresh and from scratch, so you know you’re eating good food. They also have a dinner and a movie combo where you get a sandwich with a side, dessert and a coffee/tea AND admission to a movie at the Princess Cinema for only $24.50, which I think is a total steal.

Perfect for… grabbing a snack or drink to talk over the movie you saw at the Princess Theatre moments before.

So collegiettes, let me know if you check out any of these places and how you like them!
