Hairstyles for Short Hair That Make Life Easy

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Waterloo chapter.

Short is a blessing, trust me. It’s easier to maintain and washing it takes way less time. So if you’re like me and you decided to spontaneously chop off your long locks for a shorter do, you now have absolutely no idea how to style it anymore (Pro tip: Bobby pins save lives). These are some hairstyles that I actually use every day that I found work spectacularly with shorter hair.

1) Half up half down ponytail

This is perfect if you want your hair out of your face but don’t want to stick a thousand bobby pins in there to make sure your ponytail doesn’t fall out. It’s quick and easy and still looks super cute.

Step 1: Divide your hair in half.

Step 2: Pull the top half up into a high ponytail and secure it with an elastic.

Step 3: Pull out a few strands here and there if you want it to look messy.

2) Low side bun

This is fantastic if you want to look professional but cute at the same time. The best part about a bun low on your neck is that you can make it as neat or as messy as you want and it still looks fantastic!

Step 1: Braid your hair to one side and secure it with an elastic (A pony tail works as well!).

Step 2: Twist and wrap the braid/ponytail around itself until it’s close to your head and secure it with an elastic.

Step 3: Add a few bobby pins if you feel the need.

Step 4:  Pull out a few strands and loosen the bun if you want to make it messy.

3) Half up half down messy bun

This is basically the bun version of the half up half down ponytail. I was devastated the first time I tried to throw my hair up in a messy bun after I got it cut and found that it just wouldn’t stay up. This is a great alternative to a high messy bun and still looks as just as effortless and cool!

Step 1: Divide your hair in half

Step 2: Pull the top half into a high ponytail and twist it around when you start tying it up with an elastic to make it look like a bun.

Step 3: Add bobby pins to secure it.

4) Braid and pull back

This is one of the best things to do you when you want to make it look like you put a lot of effort into your hair when you really didn’t. It’s also super easy to do when you’re running on second day hair or when you’re in a rush!

Step 1: Take a section on one side of your hair close to the front.

Step 2: Braid it normally.

Step 4: Pull it back and secure it to the back of your hair with a bobby pin.

Step 5: Repeat on the other side.

Step 6: Pull at the braids to make them appear bigger and messier.

Step 7: Pull out a few strands if you want it to look messier.

So moral of the story? You can still totally rock cute hairstyles with less effort and short hair friends! Don’t worry!
