What made you want to enroll in the GBDA program?
When scrolling through different university websites, trying to find the right program that sparks my interest and challenges me to try something new, different and most importantly something exciting, I came across GBDA. Just from reading the program description and the courses it offers, I knew right off the bat that this was it. This was my opportunity to be part of something big. A platform that will help me shape and design the future in the digital media industry while developing and proposing solutions with my digital design skills. This is where I belong. A place that fosters creativity, innovation and continues to push me outside of my comfort zone in becoming a mindful leader who can meet the challenges of a global digital culture.
How did you obtain the VP academic junior position for the GBDA society?
Moving away from Mississauga and settling into Waterloo during my first year was an overwhelming experience. I wanted to get involved within the school community and be a part of something special. I ran for the position of a First Year Representative and that was where it all started. I became involved within the GBDA Society and provided students with academic study sessions to help prepare for exams and represented the voice of the first years through this position. As the year came to an end, I really wanted to continue helping first years as they transition from high school to university, which encouraged me to run again for the position of Vice President Academic (Junior). It’s been an amazing journey thus far and I love helping out first year’s as they get to explore more about university life and know that there is someone there who is willing to offer guidance and support at all times.

Best advice you can give to someone looking to takeover an executive role in a club/society?
In the wise words of Harvey Specter, “ you miss all the shots you don’t take.” Take your chances, push outside of your comfort zone, get involved because you not only learn and grow as a person but you become a part of something big.
