With spring right around the corner and the worst of winter behind us, I am so excited to see all the new colours popping up in my garden and around campus. While the snow melts, so too does my seasonal depression. It’s harder to be sad in spring because it’s such a beautiful time of year, especially coming from the whites and greys of winter. Don’t get me wrong, I love the snow, and Christmas is one of my favourite holidays, but I also love working from my deck and digging in the dirt to plant my garden. The vitamin D from the sun is so rejuvenating!

I think spring is the perfect time for things that summer is too hot for, like working outside. I’m a camper — I love sleeping in a tent and cooking my food over a fire. I find it therapeutic to take time away from the hustle and bustle of the city and slow down for a while. Stepping outside of the city and listening to the birds chirp and the wind whistle through lush green trees is so soothing for my soul.

Spring is also great for picnics and patios. I’m excited to start planning things like this with my friends and spending more time outside after being cooped up all winter long. I recommend you find a warm day and go for a walk outside, sit outside and do your work, and spend some time in the fresh air enjoying the sunshine.

I love that as the snow melts away it leaves so much room for growth, both literally and figuratively. Spring is a great time to take a long look in the mirror and reevaluate if you are the person you want to be. It’s also a great time to start healthy habits like journaling or pick back up any habits you may have fallen off track with from your New Year’s resolutions. For me personally, one of my resolutions was to work out more frequently. After writing this piece, I took some time to look at where I am and where I’m going to see if I’m on track and am happy with the changes I’ve made or if I’m looking for something more or different than what I’m currently doing.

If you want to take some time and bring spring into your space, go buy a plant. I have two spider plants (no, not with spiders) that I love. They’re low maintenance and bring life and green into your home. Any plant will do, even if it’s fake, but I find having that pop of life in your space, especially this time of year, will do wonders for you.

Enjoy this new season, I know I will.
