When I say the phrases “new beginnings” or “fresh start,” I’m sure most of your minds will drift to the biggest reset there is: New Years. The clock strikes twelve, you welcome the New Year with open arms, and you let out a sigh of relief as all your worries, regrets, and misery from the previous year are washed away. Don’t get me wrong; I’m as big a fan of New Years as the next person, but I’m also a huge sucker for the beginning of fall. Although “new year, new me” has a nice ring to it, I don’t think there’s anything better than starting fresh with a new school year, and letting autumn signify that big change in your life.
Starting fresh in the fall is like any new beginning; it comes with resolutions and changes, something to better yourself. Maybe it’s organizing your time better so you can finally achieve that honour roll status you promised yourself you’d get. It could be finding the time in your school schedule to start going to the gym this year, balancing fitness with academics. If you’re anything like me, you’re gonna make multiple changes to your life, starting with the outside and working your way in… which is why I just spent over $300 on a new wardrobe, and I have absolutely no regrets.
Yes, I spent my hard-earned money (well, not really; I work in retail) on an entire new set of clothes. No, I’m not shallow or vain; I’ve simply decided that this school year, I’m going to do everything in my power to empower myself. I’m not gonna lie, it’s been a rough year, and I needed a change. I wanted my first step of remodelling myself to be something physical, and fall is the perfect time for me to do just that. The weather got colder, I put away my summer clothes, and when I pulled out my old boots from last season, I realized they just won’t do it anymore. Pair that with the fact that I was finally going to school in-person for the first time in two years. I don’t know about you, but I think that definitely calls for a wardrobe change!
Throughout the pandemic, my dad always wore business attire at home if he was working on an important project. He said it helped his productivity, because he felt more professional and businesslike. Naturally, I would sit there in my pyjama pants and two-day-old t-shirt and laugh at him, but I’ve started to question his notion. His clothes empowered him, and he was able to get the job done feeling that much better about himself, because his outfit inspired his attitude. I know I definitely feel more confident in a hot outfit than I do in my ratty old sweatpants. Call it what you want, but clothes influence how we feel, and my new wardrobe empowers me completely. I’ve revamped my entire look — new sweaters, new jeans, new boots, new me.
Forget waiting for the New Year to upgrade your life. Start now! Trust me when I say that there’s no better time than fall to drop your entire paycheck on those items you’ve been eyeing for months. Treat yourself this season — it’s worth it.
