The Five Best Halloween Costumes for the Perfectly Single

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at West Chester chapter.

We see it every year. As the countdown to Halloween creeps closer, no pun intended, we begin to see more and more inspiration online for costume ideas. Specifically, couples costume ideas. Everyone loves to see a good Jim and Pam, and trust me, we’ve all seen a fair few.

But what happens when you’re just Jim or just Pam this year? Does that mean your Halloween adventures or your costume has to be any less awesome?

This is not a rhetorical question, the answer is no, they do not need to be any less awesome. Some costumes are better left to the ones flying solo. So whether you are attending a Halloween party with friends or just going stag, here are the five best singles costumes for 2019.

Winnie Sanderson:

Everyone’s favorite villain from the 1993 Disney classic, “Hocus Pocus,” Winnifred Sanderson, would make the perfect costume to show off your dedication to Halloween at any given function. Throwing on a purple or green dress, giving yourself some intense messy curls and of course, finding yourself a broom as an accessory makes a complete look that will have everyone up and singing, “I Put a Spell on You.”

The best part is that the costume completely lends itself to being the perfect group costume with you and your girls completing the full Sanderson Sister trio.

Morticia Adams:

This powerful matriarch from every favorite spooky family is possibly the easiest and most stylish costume you could find. Dressing in all black, straightening your hair and popping on a red lip means you will have completely embodied the spirit of Ms. Adams herself.

There’s definite potential to sweep any costume contests, but at the very least, you’ll have everyone humming the maddeningly catchy theme tune the entire night.

Coraline Jones:

If there were ever a character that was meant for going alone, it is Coraline. Grappling most of the movie with her loneliness, which ultimately leads her to trouble, this costume is by far one of the most unique looks you could have. A yellow rain jacket, jeans, and rain boots round out the outfit, while it the extra mile can be taken by drawing giant buttons over your eyes, and maybe even adding some blue hair color.

If you have a best gal pal that you are spending the evening with, encourage them to come as Coraline’s “other mother”, and have a blast freaking out the rest of your friends with your stitched-on looking eyes.

Eleven:

This costume is without a doubt going to give you the power to crush the night. With a plethora of episodes and signature, El looks, you have the creative freedom to decide how you want to look on Halloween.

If season one of “Stranger Things” was your favorite, try wearing a cute pink dress with white sneakers with your winter coat thrown on top. But maybe if you are a fan of the most recent season, which debuted just this past July, a big tee with a crazy, colorful 80’s pattern underneath a pair of suspenders and chunky socks would be perfect.

Whatever you do, don’t forget to draw on Eleven’s signature drip of blood from her infamous, power-induced nosebleeds.
