Having trouble coming up with gift ideas for you SO this Valentine’s Day? No worries, I got you covered. I’m a big believer that the most special gifts are homemade ones, so if you’re looking for crafty ways to express your love for your SO, here are my favorite ideas:
1. I love you because…
This one is a classic. Take a jar or box and decorate it with glitter, stickers, paint, and what have you. My favorite way of doing this is taking thick multimedia paper, cutting it into hearts, and staining it with wine. If you need assistance staining the paper, read this blog post. Once the paper hearts are dry, write reasons you fell in love with your person on each one and fill the box/jar with them.
2. A walk down memory lane
This is a great idea if you and your person have been together for a long time. You can either purchase a scrapbook or make your own for extra sentiment. On each page you can include pictures of you together, ticket stubs from places you went together, letters or notes you exchanged, anything that has meaning. The best part is that you can add more memories to it together as your relationship grows!
3. Cute coupons
This one is a little sappy but there are plenty of ways you can make Valentine’s coupons more meaningful. They don’t have to be the super cheesy ones like “redeem for a foot rub” or “redeem for breakfast in bed”. I think it’s best to avoid using favors, then it might seem like you’re signing yourself up for a chore or your partner may feel like they’re making you do something. Instead, some good ideas are ones like they choose a movie or they choose the next restaurant for takeout.
4. Covid friendly date tickets
You can either decorate tickets by hand, or design them online with platforms like Canva and print them out. If you want you can even laminate them! Some Covid safe date ideas for the tickets can be: drive in movie night, picnic on the next sunny day, arts and crafts night, cook a fancy meal together, stargaze one night with lots of blankets, or anything you can come up with! Alternative idea: write out the date ideas on popsicle sticks and put them in a decorated jar. Next date night you can randomly pick a popsicle stick and let it decide what the two of you will do together!
5. V-day treats!
If you like to bake, there are plenty of creative and delicious Valentine’s themed recipes on the internet. You can try your hand at baking anything from Valentine’s Day Strawberry Muffins to these No Bake Oreo Balls. If you want to keep it simple, you make chocolate covered strawberries, heart shaped brownies, or even Cupid’s popcorn, which is just microwave popcorn but you add white chocolate chips, conversation hearts, Valentine’s M&M’s, and pink food coloring.
Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to express your love for someone, and I think the best way to do that is by making something by hand for a loved one. Hopefully this inspired you to start crafting!
