If you’re a reader and you don’t have the app GoodReads, WTH are you doing?! GoodReads is an app for readers where you can rate and review books, mark books that you want to read and have read, create a yearly challenge, make buddies with your other reader friends, and more! GoodReads has to be my favorite app ever. I get daily book recommendations, mark and edit all the days I read a book, and see what my friends are reading! It is so useful to keep track of my reading and actually motivates me to read more! I’ve gotten so many amazing recommendations from GoodReads and I’m positive you will too. If you’re not typically a reader but want to start, this app is a MUST to get you into the groove. I am going to give you a run down of my 2024 reading challenge and all the books I’ve read so far this year, and plan to read.

For my reading challenge, I challenged myself to read 20 books in 2024. So far I’ve read 4, so we’re working our way up there! Here’s a list of the 4 books I’ve read:

Wilder Girls by Rory Power (4 stars!)

Wilder Girls features an all girl’s school that has been hit with a deadly disease called the Tox. Three inseparable friends navigate through the struggles during years of quarantine, cut off from the outside world. This book is eerie, but what makes it even more creepy is that it was published 1 year before Covid. Strange coincidence, or could it have been a prediction? I give this book 4 stars because I wasn’t completely thrilled with the ending. It wasn’t a cliffhanger, but I was left looking for more.

Lightlark and Nightbane by Alex Aster (5 stars for both books!)

Lightlark and Nightbane is a two, soon-to-be-three installment romance-fantasy book series with magic, love, war, competition, and everything in between. Six magical realms battle to break their deadly curses, leaving one to die in the end. The best part? Enemies to lovers romance trope, and love triangles. It’s honestly TOO good. The world building is amazing, and you really get sucked into the fantasy world of Lightlark. I rate this series a 5 because I was genuinely obsessed and couldn’t put them down. The magic, the mystery, the complicated love. Perfection.

Bunny by Mona Awad (3.5 stars!)

Bunny is a deep, yet hilarious and sarcastic novel that takes a dark turn in the life of a writing graduate student. Making friends with the wrong people comes at a cost. If you like the movie Jennifer’s Body or any show/book with crazy girls, you’ll LOVE Bunny. My favorite part of this book is the way it was written. Mona Awad possesses a satirical and sarcastic writing style, which makes it enjoyable and fun to read even when weird stuff is going down. Though the writing was amazing, I was often confused at many parts in the book, which is why I gave it a 3.5. I had fun reading this book, but I was lost at least once a chapter.

I am so pleased with the 4 books I’ve read so far, and I recommend them to anyone who is intrigued by the descriptions! Here is a list of a few books on my 2024 reading challenge that I cannot wait to read throughout the year:

Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov

The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides

The Secret History by Donna Tartt

A Flick in the Dark by Stacy Willingham

One Dark Window and Two Twisted Crowns by Rachel Gillig

The Woman in the Library by Sulari Gentill

All of these books are rated by other GoodReads members at 3.5 or higher! Many of these books were recommended to me by the app itself, and I was completely intrigued by the description, as well as other members’ reviews. GoodReads has become such a positive influence in my life, as silly as it sounds. It brings me happiness and makes me eager to read and explore the world of literature we have at our fingertips today. This sounds like a paid sponsorship, but I promise, I’m just a girl who really, really loves the app and all the features it offers. Check out my read and to be read books of 2024… I hope you love them as much as I did!
