Iâve been a huge Ed Sheeran fan ever since hearing “The A Team.” Since then Iâve fallen in love with his lyrics, which always seem to have so much depth. His newest album, “Divide,” is no exception. It has a good mix of dance jams, emotional ballads and love songs.
Hereâs my breakdown of the album.
Barcelona
This song is a great start to the album. Itâs very fun and upbeat; it would be the perfect dance song. Putting this on my workout playlist.
Best Line: âLetâs pretend weâre dancing in the streetâ
Â
Bibia Be Ye Ye
This song definitely confused me at first since I had no idea what he was saying. It is a jumbled song but itâs upbeat and a lot of fun.
Best Line: âSomeone told me, always say whatâs on your mindâ
Â
Castle on the Hill
As one of the main singles from the album itâs a lot of fun and a powerful song. Itâs also very catchy; I keep getting it stuck in my head. I would recommend this song to anyone who’s not a big Ed fan.
Best Line: âand my first kiss on a Friday night, I donât reckon that I did it right, I was younger thenâ
Â
Dive
I loved this song; it had the powerful Ed sound that I love so much. It was a love song about starting a new relationship and being uncertain about âdivingâ in.
Best Line: âSo donât call me baby, unless you mean itâ
Â
Eraser
While this song is a very emotional song about fame it seemed very relatable despite that. I found myself feeling the same way even though it was a specific story, which is the sign of a good song!
Best Line: âIâm well aware of certain things that can destroy a man like meâ
Â
Galway Girl
This song was so catchy and made me want to dance. While I didnât emotionally connect with the song since it wasnât very meaningful, I did love it. If youâre in the mood to dance this is the perfect song.
Best Line: âKissed her on the neck and then I took her by the handâ
Â
Happier
This is a deeper slower song that was emotional and powerful. One of the ballads that people associate with the Ed Sheeran sound.
Best Line: âYou seem happier you do, my friends say one day Iâll feel it tooâ
Â
Hearts Donât Break Round Here
While this was a sweet ballad, itâs not as strong as many of his love songs. Itâs a song that I would skip if I didnât have the time to listen to the whole album.
Best Line: âEvery night Iâll kiss you, youâll say in my ear, oh weâre in love arenât weâ
Â
How Would You Feel
I personally loved this song; it was another slow love song. Although the song was not powerful vocally it was an emotional piece.
Best Line: âWe sat upon our best friends roof, I had both of my arms wrapped around you, watching the sunrise replace the moonâ
Â
Nancy Mulligan
I immediately wanted to get on my feet and dance to this song. Itâs a love story that Ed is telling in the song: this was sweet but also confusing since I didnât originally know what he was singing about. However, the song is about his grandparents. Â
Best Line: âShe and I went on the run, no care about religionâ
Â
New Man
Ed raps again! I personally love his raps, and it helps to change the mood of the album. Itâs a nice change and the song had me jamming along.
Best Line: âYouâre just a young girl tryinâ a be lovedâ
Â
Perfect
This song was very sweet, it reminded me of Tenerife Sea. Itâs one of Edâs ballads that I know Iâm going to have on repeat.
Best Line: âWe were just kids when we fell in love, not knowing what it wasâ
Â
Save Myself
If youâre looking for a new breakup/sad song to add to your playlist, this is it. The song was very emotional and passionate but so stunning.
Best Line: âI drove miles and miles, would you do the same for meâ
Â
Shape of You
This is one of Edâs singles, so itâs clearly one of the best on the album. I can hear this song being played at the club because itâs so catchy.
Best Line: âYour love was handmade for somebody like meâ
Â
Supermarket Flowers
This song is in a style that I can only describe as completely Ed Sheeran, in the same tone as his songs like Even My Dad Does Sometimes. The song seems to be about losing his mom, so itâs very powerful.
Best Line: âDad always told me donât you cry when youâre down, but mum thereâs a tear every time that I blinkâ
Â
What Do I Know
This is a nice feel good song about not taking the world too seriously. I really enjoyed the change of pace.
Best Line: âRemember life is more than fitting in your jeansâ
Â
If you havenât listened to the album, DO IT! Itâs so amazing and has a sound that no other artist has.
