Aside from the time we spend studying for midterms and hanging out with our friends and family, there’s also some time left for us to spend on ourselves. Maybe you’ve dabbled in a little bit of everything, or maybe you’re on the lookout for something new, but here are five things you can do during your study breaks.
1. Clean your room
Yes, you read that correctly. Clean your room. Not only is cleaning productive, but it can make for a great workout session. Vacuum your room for those late-night snack crumbs hidden in your carpet fibres, or organize those notes that have been sitting on the corner of your desk since the beginning of the term. No matter what you choose to do, you’ll feel ten times better when relaxing in a cleaner environment.
2. Do something creative
Whether it is writing down that poem that’s been at the back of your mind, finally dusting off your guitar to play a few tunes or venturing into the kitchen to try your hand at a new recipe, let those creative juices flow! After weeks of being in school, it may take a few minutes to get them flowing, but the final product will be worth it. 3. Read a book, listen to a podcast or watch a show
With a plethora of books available in the library (or virtual library), you can borrow as many books as your heart desires. This is your chance to give a new book a try, whether it’s a mystery novel or an autobiography that you’ve heard so much about. If a podcast is more your speed, a quick visit to Spotify’s podcast section will do the trick. Perhaps there’s a show you’ve heard about but haven’t had the chance to look into it. Give it a watch! Who knows, maybe one of these will become a new favourite of yours.
4. Just journal
Last year, I wrote about taking the time to journal, and that still applies now! Whether you want to write every single day of the week or give an update every other week, taking a few minutes to jot down your thoughts can be a fun and productive break. The best part about journaling is being able to get your thoughts down and, in the future, looking back to see how far you’ve progressed.
5. Spend time outdoors
You don’t necessarily need to take a walk, but spending time away from your room or, for most of us, our classroom, office and bedroom, can help. Enjoy the winter wonderland before the arrival of spring and get some of that much-needed fresh air!
