‘Bachelor Banter’ With Steph Kesler

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Western chapter.

Let me start by saying I wasn’t always a Bachelor fan. I also wasn’t always a Hills fan either, but somehow reality television always manages to brainwash me.

Why does it have to be so juicy!? Why is Heidi such a psychopath!?

But that’s another story.

There are so many things that can be said about ABC’s The Bachelor: some good, some bad. At first, I thought it was the silliest concept imaginable. The thought of 20 to 30 women, living in the same house and fighting over one man is a recipe for disaster. Or perhaps it’s genius.

In reality, it kind of becomes a breeding ground for criticism. As each girl steps out of the limo, you’re analyzing everything from her natural beauty, to her choice in gown, to her cheesy pickup line (some of their lines literally make me want to put my TV on mute). And for some reason, we all seem to think that our initial impression makes us capable of deciding the right match for the bachelor.

As I’ve mentioned, I wasn’t a big fan in the past. I watched a bit of Sean’s season, and a bit of the season with the blonde girl whose previous husband died in a racecar crash or something. Yes, I know, you’re all thinking that I’m the wrong girl for such a discussion, but let’s just say from this point on I had a bit of a binge-sesh.

I may or may not have watched all the seasons of Bachelor in Paradise. Consecutively. Then I watched Kaitlyn’s season. And here we are – Ben’s season.

Can I start by saying Ben Higgins is the most charming bachelor to date. Ok, so I may not know ALL of the bachelors personally, but I feel like I have read enough articles to get the gist. Not to mention, I saw my fair share of men on Bachelor in Paradise.

First off, Ben is so damn handsome. He just seems like the boy-next-door. He also seems to have an acute fondness for hot tubs, which is never bad.

Oh Ben, Ben, Ben. Who will be your lucky lady?

We all knew Lace was whack from the start. Any girl who believes a guy is sending secret signals with his eyes is a bit over the top.

Which brings me to Olivia. Girl has got to CHILL. While she may have the sex appeal factor going for her now, it’s going to fade real fast. I mean, did we not see how horrified Ben was when she started crying about her toes after he announced that two family-friends of his passed away!? Talk about self-absorbed.

On the other hand, there’s Lauren B. and Amanda. Sweet, pretty, but seem a bit closed off. I bet Ben keeps them around for a while though. Wouldn’t you? They’re gorgeous!

The surprise factor definitely has to be Jubilee though. Despite the unanimous house-hatred for her, I quite like her. It’s clear she’s sarcastic and most of the girls just don’t get her sense of humor. She truly does bring a breath of fresh air to the stuffy personalities of some of the wannabe trophy-wives.

With all this being said, I predict that the following ladies will steal the heart of Ben and make it to the hometown dates. In no particular order:

·      JUBILEE

·      LAUREN B

·      AMANDA

·      CAILA

Whether you love it or hate it, watch it religiously or watch it in secret (yes, I’m talking to you, boyfriends of the world!), The Bachelor doesn’t show any signs of slowing down in its 20th season.

As for me, I just can’t wait until the crazies like Lace and Olivia show up to Paradise and stir up some more drama. That’s what these shows are all about, right?
