Fergie, an American singer, songwriter and actress, has disclosed details of her struggle with addiction to crystal meth prior to reaching fame with the Black Eyed Peas.
In an interview with iNews, Fergie describes her personal experience with the drug.
“At my lowest point I was [suffering from] chemically induced psychosis and dementia. I was hallucinating on a daily basis,” said Fergie, according to iNews. “It took a year after getting off that drug for the chemicals in my brain to settle so that I stopped seeing things.”
The entertainer’s hallucinations became so bad that she believed that the FBI, CIA, and SWAT teams were following her movements and tracking her.
“I remember thinking: ‘If I walk outside, and that SWAT team’s out there, then I was right all along. But if they’re not out there, then it’s the drugs making me see things and I’m going to end up in an institution. And if it really is the drugs, I don’t want to live my life like this anymore, anyways,’” explained Fergie, according to iNews.
Fergie found comfort in attending church; she believes this may be because of her Catholic upbringing.
In 2012, Fergie admitted her drug addiction in an interview with Oprah on Oprah’s Next Chapter.
Fergie explained some of the symptoms she experienced with crystal meth on the show.
“It does a lot of things…It’s not good…It can make you crazy,” said Fergie.
Fergie acknowledges the difficulty of turning her life around after experiencing addiction, let alone reaching fame and success.
“It’s so incredible, I know. I think I must have guardian angels,” said Fergie, according to iNews.
Fergie released her most recent album in September of this year. The album, “Double Dutchess,” is available for purchase and streaming on iTunes and Spotify.
