To the Girl Who Forgets to Love Herself Sometimes

I want to love myself. But sometimes it’s difficult. There are days when I wake up and look at myself in the mirror and completely hate what I see. There are dark days; days when I neglect my own well-being. I forget to eat and don’t get enough sleep because I’m too busy and too stressed about life. These are the days when I become my own harshest critic and when I wish to shed aspects of myself that I don’t appreciate. These moments show all my flaws and my heart feels heavy with self-doubt and hatred.  These are the times when I forget to love myself and need to be reminded that it’s okay to not be okay and I am deserving of love. So, here’s a little note:

To the girl who forgets to love herself sometimes,

You are worthy of love. Don’t let others tell you otherwise. You deserve to be happy. It might be difficult to believe sometimes because all you can think of are reasons why you aren’t. But remember that you are and will always be worthy of love.

You are enough. You don’t need to change anything about yourself that you don’t want to. I know sometimes it might be difficult to think so, but always remember that your worth is not measured by achievements or material things so stop thinking that it is. You are beautiful just as you are. You are more than enough.

Don’t give up, keep going. Things may not be the best right now, but it will get better. You are almost there. You have been through worse things, and you survived those. You are still standing today, breathing, living. Don’t give up now; you will get to where you want to be soon.

You are never alone. Even if it feels like the entire universe is working against you, you are not alone. Look around you. You have your friends, your family, your pets, and yourself. They love and appreciate your existence. You don’t have to pretend that you’re okay when all you want to do is break down and cry. You have all these wonderful people who care and love you.

Forgive yourself. You are not perfect and you make bad decisions sometimes. That’s okay. When things don’t turn out the way you want them to, learn to understand that things happen for a reason and don’t beat yourself up for it. There are things that are out of your control. Just because something in your life went off course does not mean it’s entirely your fault. Don’t be too harsh to yourself. It’s okay to make mistakes—you’re only human.

Life is tough; it’s not always filled with rainbows and butterflies. There are moments when you would feel like crawling into a hole because you don’t like what you see. This is why we all need a little reminder of the good things around and within us. This is for those days, the ones when everything feels dark and empty. This is for those moments when you feel so down and beat. It’s that little reminder to make it through those type of days. To the girl who forgets to love herself sometimes, you are loved. Spread love and don’t forget to love yourself too.
