Harry Potter fans across Ontario are freaking out over Goderich’s second Harry Potter and the Transfiguration Town Festival. The festival will be held over the weekend of October 15th-17th, and include Quidditch tournaments, live bands, wand-making, face painting, house challenges, and more.
Tickets range from $15 to $22, and gives each lucky witch or wizard access to the festival for the whole weekend. That’s right—if you plan to go to this event, you better be ready to make a weekend of it!
Unfortunately, it looks as though—due to high demand—all available tickets are currently sold out. The organizers even set up an additional 2000 tickets for Tuesday, January 31st: 1000 tickets were distributed at 9 a.m., while the remaining 1000 tickets were distributed at 6 p.m. Although 2000 more people are now clinging to their passes and marking their calendars, there are still many disappointed fans—including myself.
Desperate Potterheads have even resorted to posting on Kijiji, saying they need X number of tickets and are willing to pay more than face value for them. However, I’ll be very surprised if anyone actually responds. I mean, it’s Harry Potter—those who have tickets are the luckiest people alive.
The whole process of purchasing tickets is, ironically, very much like receiving your Hogwarts letter: even though you want it really badly, you’re not guaranteed to get it. It seems that a lot of people had the issue of selecting tickets, only to get to the checkout to find out that the tickets were no longer available. This happened to me twice! The process proved to be very tedious, and if you were lucky enough to make it past selecting your tickets, you basically felt like the damn Chosen One (at least, that’s what I’m assuming, because I know that’s how I would feel).
Hopefully more tickets will be released, but for now, it looks like thousands of HP fans will have to wait another year or so before the opportunity comes around again. But I know for next time, we’ll all know better and make sure to get our tickets early!
