First off, enormous congratulations to Brooklyn Mclellan, the show’s director, and her executive team for pulling off a fantastic show! A big thank you also goes to this years models for being, well, regulation hotties. The SPUR fashion show took place on March 14th, 2015 at the London Music Hall and it was decorated to the max with balloons, lights, DJ, and a massive picture screen to display the makings of the show. At the end of the night after we watched an entertaining show, the audience learnt that the Western’s Purple SPUR Fashion Show had raised over $13,000 for Cystic Fibrosis – what an accomplishment!!
One thing I really enjoyed about the show was how well the theme was presented throughout the night. The theme was CIRQUE, and from beginning to end I felt like I was at a high-end, sexy show. As the models strutted down the runway there were many sub-themes to extend the overall idea further into the show, something I found to be of benefit to the organization. The sub-themes ranged from mimes and clowns, to animals and magicians, putting a lovely touch on top of the already well-planned show!
Before the show even started however, I noticed there was minimal seating if you didn’t arrive at least 45 minutes early, and people were then crammed into the upstairs portion of the venue which felt sort of impersonal and made me feel bad for those who paid $25.00 to stand.
But, once everyone found his or her place the show began!
It started with Streetwear and a great performance from Laura, one of the models. Once Laura and her partner left the stage, the models came out and gave it their all! I found all of the models to be well-suited for their roles and felt even more impressed with model rehearsal. The first half continued with Modern wear and Swimwear, and each section brought more entertainment and choreography to the stage for the audiences delight.
I felt the intermission was too long. They had a silent auction, performances and even pictures with the models, but I felt I was sitting waiting for it to start again. That said, the musical performance by Second Nature ft. Sarah Botelho was an incredible way to keep the audience entertained. They covered the mash up of Taylor Swift’s Style and Blank Space followed by Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud and did a fantastic job!
Once again, the show began!
Now, the opening after intermission was hot… really hot. Lingerie had the audience screaming and woohoo-ing the models as they not only modeled, but also gave the audience a sexy performance. The lingerie fit all of the girls perfectly and made them look sexy but elegant and sophisticated all at the same timem which is not often easy to do. The boys all wore tight black boxers, which I found to be the best way to capture male lingerie: simple and easy to remove ;)
Right when we thought they were done, the boys came back out for the Magic Mike performance!! There was no shortage of abs or hip-thrusts and I’m sure every girl in attendance has watched the video they took on their phone hundreds of times since, showing off just how hot our UWO boys are.
To cool down after such sexy show, the formal wear section was up next. The girls glided down the runway and the spot light was on them. The men looked dapper in their suits but I still think the women stole this segment of the show with their beauty and grace in these incredible dresses.
Finally, the show concluded with a display of Western Gear and a final walk for all of the models!
This show was fantastic, and there were no obvious back stage problems and everyone looked happy to be there! The little details like having all of the Exec team in white made them really stand out with a different edge than the normal all black attire. Another note I’d like to make was that the music for every part of the show was extremely well paired.
Overall, 10/10 SPUR show! Great job to everyone who participated and I hope that next year’s show is just as fabulous!!
