Top Trends for the Charity Ball

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Western chapter.

With the charity ball just around the corner, we thought we’d share some trends and tips to look your best this Saturday night.

LBD

The classic Little Black Dress. Already in your closet? Perfect. Pair it with a pair of statement glittery heels and you’re ready to wow at the ball.

Peplum

Peplum dresses are all the rage right now. You can buy them at Forever 21, H&M and many of the other stores listed in that article. If you’re looking to be a little more glam than ghetto, try a longer style that reaches the knees or 2 – 3 inches above. Anything higher and you’ll look like you’re headed to the bar, not a ball.

Leather

A classic and 2013 trend everyone should get in on is leather. It may seem a little risqué to try at the Charity ball but you can always glam it up with some sparkly accessories. That way you’ll fit right in with the theme. You could try a glittery headband (Aldo has some great options), sparkly shoes or go for a statement necklace. Aldo, H&M and Forever 21 have gorgeous accessories to choose from.

Sweetheart Necklines

Sweetheart necklines are never out of fashion, either. They look great in maxi and mini – even midi. Just be sure it’s secure at the top if it’s lacking straps. You don’t need a wardrobe malfunction while shakin’ it to JTs new single.

Textures

Another trend this year is playing with textures – mixing lace with leather, velvet with silk…the possibilities are endless. Many of the stores downtown and at the malls have great dresses that incorporate different textures. Just be careful that it’s tasteful and not tacky and don’t forget to add those accessories, they really make an outfit come together.

Glitter and Frost

Why not take thi syear’s theme and incorporate it into your outfit? Shimmery sequins dresses, white, silver or gold dresses. If you decide to go with something glam and glittery make sure you don’t overdo your accessories and instead go with a bold lip.

No matter what trend you decide to follow, just remember to be bold. This is your chance to try a trend that you were skeptical about or that dress you always thought was too much. More importantly though, remember to have fun!

All in all, Krystyna is a proud member of the HerCampus community and she looks forward to writing for you.
Rida is a fourth year student at the University of Western Ontario and is extremely excited about the opportunity to bring Her Campus to London! She recently changed her major from Finance to English Literature after finally realizing what she wanted to do with her life. Having spent her whole life in the Middle East (Dubai and Saudi Arabia) Rida had no choice but to grow up a shopaholic! Having shifted from the desert to the great ice box that is Canada, she still finds it difficult to adjust to the freezing weather. In her spare time, Rida likes reading, watching way too many shows, stuffed crust pizza and,of course, shopping! Her aspirations are to one day live in Paris and be a writer for Vogue.
