The Western University Student Council (USC) Charity Committee will be hosting a haunted house from October 23 to October 25 in the Mustang Lounge, from 5:00pm to 7:30pm.

The USC Charity Team is hosting the event in order to collect donations or non-perishable items for the USC Food Support Services (FSS).
“FSS is great because it is students helping students. If you ever want to stop by and talk to them or need to grab some food, they are in UCC 258,” Justin Chung, the charity coordinator for the 2017-2018 USC Charity Committee, explained.
The FSS is a completely anonymous food bank program run by volunteers on campus. Food hampers are available for undergraduate students and can be requested anytime online, in-person or by form.
The main cause of this event is to give back to the community, while spreading Halloween excitement among students during the stressful midterm period.
Previous haunted houses have been successful, said Chung. “Last year, we were able to raise $1700 and donate over 200 canned goods to FSS.”
The Haunted House this year has quickly gained the interest of students with their vivid lights and unexpected pop-ups.
“Before I walked into the entrance, I was not nearly as scared as my friends… but then I ended up screaming during the entire time we went through the maze! It was a great break from studying,” said Devanshi Shukla, a second year Integrated Sciences student.
Despite being hosted by USC Charity, the setup of the haunted house was a group effort.
“Students attending the Haunted House can expect an exhilarating and spooky experience. USC Productions brings the Haunted House to life and they do a stunning job,” Chung said.
In addition to the executives of USC Charity and USC Productions, this event is made possible with the help of the student volunteers. They are in charge of the creative makeup and costumes, setup and cleanup of the event, and can also be the actors in the maze.
Western’s USC Charity committee organizes five charity events every year, including Haunted House, Dine In The Dark, Children’s Holiday Party, Charity Ball and Relay for Life.
The committee coordinator enjoys his time on USC Charity and working together with the team.
“I get to enjoy watching each member express their creativity and put their unique touch on each event. So far, it has been a pleasure working with this team and they continue to astound me every day,” Chung said.
