2020 Fall Fashion Trends That Will Help Take Your Outfits to the Next Level!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wilfrid Laurier chapter.

1. Try layering different articles of clothing

One of the most convenient and timeless trends when it comes to cold weather is layering. Whether that be with sweaters or jackets, layering provides not only warmth during the fall but it is also very fashionable. Try putting a denim jacket over your casual, everyday hoodie with some darker pants and your favorite pair of chunky shoes to add dimension to your look. Adding accessories such as necklaces over your outfit can also add sophistication and make your look more put-together as well! When mixing patterns, ensure that you have one solid colour that will not overpower the patterns. If you are layering anything, make sure to choose colours that will complement one another. For example, black and gold or maroon and white all look fantastic together!

2. Add Scarves

Scarves are one of those trends that always look awesome during the fall. Recently, silk scarves have become a huge trend. They’re often worn in the hair, around the neck and even as a top! Warmer knit scarves will also never go out of style; they come in several different colors and patterns that can take your whole look to the next step without any effort! Pair your scarves with a lipstick or nail colour that matches to give your outfit that extra flare.

3. Get your nails done

Getting your nails done is another option to make your outfit look put-together without putting a lot of effort into it. Book an appointment with your friends and have a spa day. Get matching ones with your BFFs or make a statement with a bold colour or pattern

4. Show off your boots

Fall is the perfect season to experiment with footwear, especially boots. Whether you choose to invest in a warm pair of statement boots (like Timberlands), patterned or knee-high boots, the most important part is to ensure that you feel confident in them. Black boots give off a level of sophistication and can transform your look into the edgy style you desire! Some thigh-high boots will definitely make a statement; pair them with your favourite dress or mini skirt for a badass, girly vibe. Some casual, white Doc Martin boots are also super “in” right now! Pair them with a pair of ripped jeans and a cute top, and you’re set.

5. Experiment with different jackets

Jackets are an absolute essential when it comes to the cold, but that doesn’t mean they have to be big and obnoxious! They can also be very stylish. Investing in a fashionable parka or a versatile long jacket can make or break your fall wear. Try grabbing a colour that will match a portion of your wardrobe, something that has the potential to be both casual and dressed-up. Accessorize with some cute boots along with a colourful beanie and gloves combo!

6. Accessorize

Accessories are one of the easiest ways to ensure your outfit has some flare! Add some rings or funky earrings that express your personality and unique style. Necklaces are also an easy way to dress up an everyday outfit. Sticking to one metal colour such as silver or gold will help ensure your jewelry pieces complement each other. Accessories such as scrunchies or a cute bag can also make your outfit pop!
