Some are old and some are new, but one thing they all have in common – they’ll keep you hooked and offer some relief during midterm season.

Jane the Virgin

Here’s a plot twist. Jane Villanueva, a very religious, young Latina virgin gets pregnant and no, it’s not Immaculate Conception. The show follows the trials and tribulations of what happens when Jane’s doctor accidently artificially inseminates her during a pap test. This show has the best of everything: comedy, drama, and a very strong plot line that will keep you hooked! It wasn’t nominated for a Golden Globe for nothing.

You may also be a fan of how many times they mention grilled cheese sandwiches.

Black-ish

Lately, TV has been flooded with bad sitcoms; in the midst of all this Black-ish is a winner. Black-ish shares the stories of an affluent African-American family (think Modern Family) and is quite refreshing to watch. The show has well-developed, rich characters and is written extremely well. Give it a chance.

Happy Endings

Although Happy Endings has been off the air since 2013, it’s one of the most underrated shows. The series follows the laugh-out-loud adventures of six friends living in Chicago. If you’re looking to take a quick study break and a good laugh, Happy Endings is your best bet.

Sherlock

You know the story – Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson solving mysteries. BBC takes a contemporary twist on the infamous Sherlock Holmes as he is portrayed as a consulting detective to the London Police Department. Each season has three episodes, which are approximately an hour long. The show is well executed and the stories will keep you glued to your screen. If you haven’t started watching Sherlock already, start now!

Girls

Creator, Lena Dunham, shows how four very different twenty-something girls are transitioning into adulthood, and how, in their own way, deal with the challenges the real world poses. As entertaining as it may be, this show also contains some very explicit scenes and isn’t something you’d want to watch on campus. You’ve been warned.
