9 Ghost Experiences That Will Definitely Give You the Creeps

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wilfrid Laurier chapter.

We asked for your most spine-chilling stories and you gave them to us. We compiled a list of your personal ghost experiences and they’re enough to make you sleep with a nightlight for the rest of your life.

Stories have been edited for length, grammar, and clarity.

I was home alone one night when my TV suddenly turned on and the words “you were smart not to come here tonight,” flashed across the screen. Of course, I panicked and I ran up to my room. Later that night, I was in my bedroom when I heard a loud banging coming from the kitchen, as if someone was throwing the chairs around and opening and closing cupboards. I went into the hallway and looked out. Suddenly the noises just stopped. When I went back into my room the banging started up again, but this time even louder. This continued on until my roommates arrived home. Weird things like this happened throughout my lease until I moved out. My one roommate even had sleep paralysis and dreamt that a ghost got into bed with her.

Last year, during this time of the year, I was sitting alone in my living room at around 8PM. I was on my laptop when, all of a sudden, the lights in my living room dimmed on their own. When I looked up, my desk and chair had begun to turn on their own. I remember saying “stop,” the chair fell over and the lights went back to normal. It was one of the scariest things I’ve ever experienced.

This past reading week I went to New York City with my mom, and the first night there I had a terrible nightmare, which hasn’t happened to me since I was little. The next night the same thing happened. Finally, I told my mom that our hotel room was giving me weird vibes and I’ve had trouble sleeping due to my dreams. She replied with “maybe it’s haunted.” Please keep in mind that is not something a daughter wants to hear from her mother. She jokingly told me we should burn sage in the room to remove whatever was there. We never did. That night I went to bed and I woke up to see a man standing in front of my closet looking at my mom as if he recognized her. After I was staring at him for about 30 seconds, he disappeared. I suddenly felt cold air on my neck and hid under the hot-ass blanket for the rest of the night. I still can’t figure out who that man was.

It all started at Laurier, on the third floor of Macdonald house, where my dorm room was located. I startled my roommate when I thought I had seen a figure standing in the corner of our dorm, so of course, I screamed and told her what happened. Intrigued by the possibility, I started to tell my roommate how old the school was and that it was definitely possible that there was a ghost in the room. As soon as I said that, all of the power shut off in our room. Oh, and it was three o’clock in the morning. My roommate left for reading week and I stayed back. Once she came home, she found a box of my cookies sitting in the corner of her room. Confused by how they got there, I quickly checked the cabinets and of course, my box of cookies was still in there. I had only bought one box of those cookies and that box hadn’t moved, so where in the world did this new box come from? Did I forget to mention that paranormal entities have a tendency of making duplicates of things people already own when inhabiting their space? All I can say is one word – creepy.

When I was younger and I would get up in the middle of the night, I would see this weird ghostly figure of a girl who looked a lot like me. She would stand outside my parents or my sibling’s room and would say “I’m going in” and push their door open. I haven’t seen her in a while, and I’m not complaining about it.

Many years ago, my older sister decided to do a Ouija board with her friends in our basement. Since then, weird things have been happening. One time I was home alone and I decided to nap in the basement. I woke up to someone whispering my name. I ignored it, but it happened again. I still get the creeps walking downstairs.

A couple of friends of mine got together one night for a basement slumber party. A desk with an above-average sized chair was placed directly in front of the air mattress where my friends would be sleeping. Before bed, my friends were certain the chair was placed facing toward the desk. However, during the night one of the girls woke up and saw the dark figure of a man sitting in the chair, watching them. Assuming she was still half asleep and imagining things, my friend quickly turned over and went back to sleep. In the morning, they both woke up to find the chair had been turned around by someone, as it was facing toward them.

Once, my grandma felt someone tickling her feet while she was sleeping and, when she woke up, she saw a bunch of people wearing long white gowns walking down from the attic stairs into her bedroom holding a candle. When one walked up close to her it was their thumbs on fire, not candles.

When I was little, I lived in the Philippines. In the middle of the night, I went to use the bathroom. As I was standing there, I saw something in front of me, but since it was dark, I tried to ignore it. It got closer to me and as I was looking down, I saw a man in dress pants standing in front of me. He was so tall I couldn’t see his face. Immediately, I started to scream and I told my family that a man was in the house. My grandmother, who lived with me at the time, told me that I have “it” – that I have a “third eye” that allows me to see people who have died. She told me that I won’t experience seeing ghosts for a while but, as I get older, it’ll grow stronger and stronger. A week later, we moved out.

Just your typical eighteen-year-old communications major at Wilfrid Laurier University. I love fluffy pillows, soft blankets and printing out inspirational quotes on Pinterest to hang on my wall. I also avidly advocate for everybody to watch Step Brothers at least 10 times in their life. If I had to pick a spirit animal, I'd have to say I'm a hybrid of Elle Woods and Ricky from Trailer Park Boys. Stay golden. Ig - Lilyannaperez
