I was late to the game when it came to a PowerPoint night with my friends. We didn’t understand the “hype” at first. So, when I actually became interested, the trend had already fizzled out. Of course I know I could’ve participated in it anyways but when I stopped seeing it online, I forgot how fun it looked to actually do it.
Recently, however, my best friend and I have started doing our own PowerPoint Night. What started as a silly conversation about our ridiculous fictional crushes, turned into a 35-slide-long slideshow with transitions, music and videos. This one slideshow sparked a series of slideshows and thus, PowerPoint Night was reborn. We especially love it because it’s cost-free: no unnecessary spending is required. However, we do end up getting a little treat because what’s a show without a snack?
After many weeks of searching for the best slideshow topics and finding super fun slideshow templates (thank you SlidesCarnival), I’ve decided I’m the best equipped to tell you the top 10 PowerPoint Night ideas you should do with your friends.
1. “Ranking My Crushes”
Starting off strong with the topic that re-started it all. This one is super versatile and can be done in many ways. My friend and I decided we’d go through as many crushes as we could remember having, including real, celebrities and fictional crushes. We included their green and red flags and, for the fictional and celebrity crushes, we included a fan-made thirst trap we found on TikTok. It was fun and super silly. I definitely recommend!
2. “Things I Hate: Change My Mind”
This is another one my friend and I did. It’s safe to say it sparked a lot of conversation. To start, we had a list of 30 things we hated. After each item on the list, we’d discuss whether or not that hate was justified. It was fun to get super heated about things and because we, for the most part, agreed with each other, it made the discussion even more fun!
3. “My Red Flags”
We haven’t done this one yet but we’ve decided it’ll be our next slideshow. For this slideshow, we’re planning on writing a list of our own red flags and why we think it’s a red flag. Of course, if you want to, you have the opportunity to make this super deep and really dive into some personal issues. Or, you can make this absolutely ridiculous and have a good laugh about some of the not-so-perfect traits about yourself.
4. “Lore Slideshows”
This is perfect if you’re trying to recruit someone to join a fan group you’re obsessed with. This is one I want to do but can’t convince my friend to do it with me; she’s not a baseball fan no matter how much I try and get her to be! The idea for this slideshow would be to go through a particular topic and explain it in detail. This could be a show you love, a random celebrity you know a lot about or a sport you love. The opportunities are endless and you might wind up with someone else who is as obsessed about something as you are.
5. “My Dream Vacation Plan”
Who doesn’t want to plan a dream vacation where money and time aren’t things you have to worry about? In my mind, this slideshow would consist of where you and your friends would go, what you’d do, where you’d stay, how you’d get there and how much money you’d spend. You could make a dream itinerary, find some cool places to visit and give yourself as much money as you need to plan the perfect trip!
6. “My Favourite and Least Favourite Trends”
For this one, you’d go through which trends, TikTok, fashion or other, that you love and hate. Of course, what would make the slideshow interactive would be discussing why you feel that way and seeing how your friends feel. You could also include some visuals to help you explain why you feel a trend is good or bad.
7. “Things I Want to Eat but Can’t”
Did I hear someone say fish tank rocks? Sea glass? I’d give anything to take a bite of some Orbeez if I didn’t think they’d probably poison me. I have an endless list of things that look like they’d taste so good but, unfortunately, wouldn’t be good for me. For this slideshow, you could include the item you’d want to eat, what you think it would taste like and maybe some edible replacements. There are too many yummy-looking objects in the world and they deserve some recognition!
8. “My Dream Wedding”
If you’re anything like me, you’ve been planning your dream wedding since you were a child. I’ve had a Pinterest board dedicated to this for years now and I think it’d be super fun to put that into a slideshow. I’d imagine for this slideshow you could include your dream wedding destination, who you’d invite (and who you’d intentionally not invite), the theme and venue, the food, the dress (or suit) and so so much more!
9. “Songs for Each Milestone in My Life”
I love putting songs in my slideshows, so this one would be extra fun for me. I’ve had a “milestone” playlist for a few years, filled with songs I think would play during important moments in my life. For example, Respect by Aretha Franklyn would absolutely play if I moved to New York and was exploring the city for the first time. Putting those songs into a slideshow would be a fun way to explain the specific moments in which those songs would play. At the very end, if you don’t have one already, you can make a playlist filled with these songs and manifest that sh*t!
10. “My Instagram Archive”
This is one that would really test how close you are with your friends. Personally, I’ve been through many phases in my life while trying to understand who I am and find my place. It’s not only incredibly funny, but also embarrassing to see those phases like a time capsule in my Instagram archives. For this last one, the idea would be to go through all of your archived photos and pick a few good ones that really capture how you’ve changed over the years. Maybe you were a big filter user, a fan of black and white or really into facetuning. Whatever it is, watching your friends react to those changes, in my mind at least, would be absolutely hilarious!
I love putting together a good slideshow and using the template finder website I’ve discovered, SlidesCarnival, because the possibilities are endless. The website has options for PowerPoint, Google Slides and Canva slideshows. So, you’re great slideshow ideas won’t be squandered by a lack of good template options! If you’re looking for something fun to do with your friends that doesn’t cost any money and will give you all a laugh, PowerPoint Night is the perfect activity!
All my love <3
