Meet Phil, a guitar-playing science student in his 4th year with a big heart and a love for puns. With a knack for posting tweets that are always guaranteed to put a smile on your face, we caught up with this Golden Hawk to get to know him a little better!
Name: Phil McIndoe
Age: 21
Program: Biology
Year of Study: 4th
Hometown: Kemptville, Ontario
Relationship Status: Single
Celebrity Crush: Emma Watson
What are you involved in on campus?
I’m part of a program called Leave the Pack Behind, which is a government-funded organization that helps students quit smoking, and helps them find information on quitting, physiological effects, and resources. It hasn’t started yet, but I will also be on a webcasting team that is going to be filming and producing the webcasting of Laurier’s hockey and basketball teams.
What made you want to get involved?
I first started as a volunteer with the Health Centre because I wanted to give myself some opportunities to build upon the future I hope to have in health, and eventually I got promoted. I’m very interested in mental health and that is another aspect that drew me to join.
What is your favourite class that you’ve taken at WLU?
My favourite class that I’ve taken at WLU is Drugs & Behaviour. It was really cool because, first off, Bruce Mackay is awesome. The class didn’t even feel like a course and instead it felt like I was watching a documentary. Every lecture was focused on a different drug, and he included students’ experiences, and it was just overall really interactive. It’s not really what you encounter in other courses!
What are 3 things you look for in a girl?
1.    Confidence
2.    Extroverted, open
3.    Intelligent – no, funny. Put funny.
What is the best line you’ve ever given a girl?
One time, I said, “Hey, didn’t we go to different schools together?” And we started laughing and talked for a bit after that.
Where do you want to be in 10 years?
I want to be working as a doctor or a dentist and I guess be in a serious relationship with a girl by then.
No kids?
At 31?! No, maybe.
What is your favourite bar?
I gotta say Phil’s. It’s cheap, it’s close, and I feel like it’s just a part of the Laurier experience. And the never-ending challenge I face of getting people to believe my name is actually Phil when I’m in there. Or answering the question, “Are you Phil’s Grandson?”
What’s in your glass on a Saturday night?
Gin & Lime.
Describe your ideal Sunday.
Netflix – Probably Grey’s Anatomy that I just started or That 70’s Show. Actually, probably some studying, and a little guitar playing too.Â
What do you wish more people knew about you?
Maybe that I plant trees. Or that you can’t really take a lot of what I say to heart because I’m not as big of an a**hole as I come off as…I don’t mean to be as blunt or outspoken as I am.
What song is stuck in your head right now?
Hotline Bling. For sure.
How would your friends describe you?
Ugh, I hate this question. *laughs* I hope funny, laidback… but also passionate. *laughs* I don’t know.
What is your favourite tweet of your own?
What would you say is your worst flaw?
I think I’m too hard on myself.
If you could be anyone else for 24 hours, who would you be?
Kanye West.
What is your favourite quote?
“If you don’t fulfill your dreams, someone will hire you to fulfill theirs.” – Tony Gaskins
Thanks for chatting with us, Phil! We wish you all the best in your fourth year at Laurier.
