Musical icon Taylor Swift just recently blessed the world with her newest and most magical album Folklore, but let’s recount her entire epic discography.
Starting with Taylor’s debut album, Taylor Swift, we are introduced to a young sixteen-year-old country artist from Pennsylvania, living in Nashville. The album was released in 2006 featuring several hit songs. We were introduced to “Teardrops on My Guitar”, which is a song about wanting a guy and him not being aware of the fact that she was hoping to be with him. This album is also home to tracks “Picture to Burn”, “Our Song” and “Should’ve Said No” that Taylor performed live at the ACM Awards in 2008. This album won several awards for Swift, including ACMA, BBMA, several BMI awards and countless other awards and nominations for her work.
Two years later, Swift released her album Fearless which brought in several of her greatest hits that we are all still singing in the shower, at parties and on long car rides an entire decade later. Songs featured on this album include “You Belong with Me” and “Love Story”. Swift won all four categories she had been nominated for at the CMA awards in 2010. She then collected four Grammy honours for several different categories as well, including Album of the Year in 2010.
After Fearless, Swift received some backlash which fueled her hit album Speak Now. This album was written solo after critics bashed her album Fearless, calling it a “loose concept album”. Later on, Speak Now started rolling in several award nominations. The album includes tracks like “Mine”, “Mean”, “Enchanted”, “Back to December” and other country-pop tracks. Taylor’s hit song “Mean” awarded the talented singer a Grammy win as well. The album brought in several AMAs, CMT, Teen Choice Awards and a multitude of other nominations and wins.
Another two years later, Swift graced us with her album Red. This is a Swiftie favorite, which is home to her hit songs “I Knew You Were Trouble” and “We Are Never Getting Back Together”. The album was praised for its sophisticated lyrics and mature themes of heartbreak, pressure and romance. The album was awarded several BBMA’s and an AMA for Favorite Country Album after its release.
With the release of 1989 in 2014, Taylor completes a successful genre switch with this pop album. This album features hit songs “Blank Space”, “Out of the Woods”, “Style” and “Shake It Off”. This album was a huge hit and a completely new experience for Swift’s fanbase, and it’s not a secret we all loved it. The album named after the year she was born went on to win several MTV VMA’s and Album of the Year at the 2016 Grammy Awards. Several other prizes were awarded to Swift for this certified platinum album.
After taking a break from Hollywood, no one has seen Swift in about a year. In 2017, she makes her comeback with a pop album, Reputation. Swift had taken the hate she received and turned it into power with this badass, fun and magical album. Swifties were shocked when she released “Look What You Made Me Do”, where she states that the old Taylor was “dead”. The album also features hit song “Endgame”, featuring Ed Sheeran and Future. Other songs on the album include “I Did Something Bad”, “Delicate” and “…Ready For It?”. In 2018, Swift released a Netflix film of her Reputation World Tour titled Taylor Swift Reputation Stadium Tour. The tour went on to be one of the highest-grossing world tours in history, with a total of 53 shows and grossing $345.7 million.
Two years later, Swift released her album Lover with the debut song featuring Panic! At the Disco member Brendon Urie, titled “ME!”. This album is full of enchanting and fun beats, which showcases Swift’s strengths after her break from the scene. Other hit songs include “Lover”, “The Man”, “You Need To Calm Down” and “Soon You’ll Get Better (ft. The Chicks)” in which Swift sings about her mother’s ongoing battle with cancer. This album is a representation of Swift’s thoughts on current issues in our world, her newfound happiness and reflections on her past. Following the release of Lover, Taylor Swift and Director Lana Wilson released a documentary as an insight into the life of the popstar titled Miss Americana.
Now 30 years old, Taylor Swift has just released her most recent album Folklore. The album was released as a surprise in July 2020. Swift blew her fans away with this new alternative acoustic album that shows how Swift’s imagination ran wild during isolation. The album features songs including “Betty”, “Cardigan” and a collab with Bon Iver called “Exile”. Swifties were thrilled to see Taylor go back to her country roots in this whimsical album. Folklore has been nominated for a People’s Choice Award and the album set a Guinness World Record for “Most one-day streams of an album on Spotify (female)”. Swifties are sure that this is not the first nomination Swift will receive for her work on Folklore.
